Routes / Lincoln,Ne heading east through Iowa
« on: July 08, 2011, 05:06:26 pm »
Hello again. Heading east from Lincoln, Ne.........should I take hwy 34? I read somewhere it's not too bike-friendly, but it's the most direct way east from Lincoln.
If not 34, which route through Iowa? not too far up or down out my way. I think I'll cross the river at Plattsmouth............and I'm heading to Pittsburgh.

Routes / I-80 through Wyoming

I'll be trying to get from Green River,Wy to Laramie,Wy as directly as possible but I think it's not allowed to peddle on I-80....even though there's no 'frontage' road in places.....is that correct? Or can I use the Interstate in certain sections?

Routes / South Idaho to Boulder,Co.

I'll be heading to Boulder, Colorado from Boise, Idaho.........after Twin Falls, Idaho, any recommendations as to a route that's going to take me over the least elevation?
Am I best following I-84 down towards Salt Lake city or take Hwy 30 from near Pocatello?

I don't really want to sit on an interstate, but I don't want to go mountain climbing either (dodgy knees)!

Routes / I-84 Portland-Boise

Anyone taken I-84/Hwy30 from Portland to Boise?

I'm heading from Portland to Boise in a couple of weeks and am hoping to take Hwy224/26 Estacada/Madras but it's still closed with 4ft of snow.......If it ain't open when I set off, I may take the Colombia Gorge/I-84/Hwy30 route. Anyone taken this route? It's probably very noisy and busy, but is it doable? Is it relatively flat?

I-84/Hwy30............how is it on a bicycle?

Routes / Portland to Boise

I'm going to start a TransAm from the coast west of Portland, Oregon (not sure where yet). I shall spend a few days with a friend at Clackamas/Estacada then head to Boise. Idaho.

Considering I'll have a loaded bike and I'm not as fit as I could be.........which route should I take through middle/east Oregon....Hwy 20 or Hwy 26 east from Madras? Is one route flatter than the other? Does either road have a shoulder? So via John Day or Burns?
