Gear Talk / I Found and Purchased My New Bike
« on: February 22, 2014, 04:14:53 pm »
Well my search is over. After much thought and research I have nixed the Cannondale I was looking at and found a Trek 970 in my size I am going to build into a trekking bike. I want to be able to ride rail trails and do road touring. I have one of the first Trek VRX full suspension bikes that I am going to attempt a parts swap on to the 970. Fist thing is to purchase some trekking bars and get my Brooks B-17 and Thudbuster seat post onto the bike. The bike was owned by a former bike shop owner and he has gone through everything and tuned it up. The frame has a few chips and scratches. I am thinking about stripping it and doing a powder coat paint job. If anyone has one of these bikes they did an upgrade or knows of someone that has done an upgrade please let me know I would like to pick their brain for some ideas. And the transition begins!!

Gear Talk / Looking For Cannondale TX1000 Info - Who Has or Had One
« on: January 29, 2014, 07:23:19 pm »
I am currently looking for a touring bike and have found a Cannondale TX1000 that is in my size. Does anyone have any information or experience riding this particular bike. It is all aluminum so I am not sure about the ride quality. It does have all Suntour components but if I purchase it I can always swap out for better components. Let me know what you think of this bike.
Thanks

Classifieds / WTB Trek 720
« on: October 06, 2011, 06:35:08 pm »
I am new to bike touring not cycling in general. I have researched different bikes and I currently own 6 Treks I am a Trek nut so....I am looking for a Trek 720 made in America bike. I know they are far and few but I am holding out that I will find one. I am 5'-9" with an inseam of 30". From what I have figured out I would need a 19" - 20" frame or 54cm to 56cm. I would take a complete bike or a frame and fork combination. If you have one that you would like to sell or know of one for sale please e-mail me or call. Thanks for your help and I hope to see you on the roads of America.

South / Cycling The Natchez Trace
« on: October 06, 2011, 10:40:57 am »
Has any one here done the Trace from end to end? I am thinking of doing this ride in the near future and trying to decide if I want to do it fully self contained or have a sag follow. What time of year would be a good time also. Also advise on camping facilities and what to expect as far as elevation changes. I will most likely start at the Nashville end and go south. If I do fully supported I need to figure out how to get back to N'ville or return back to my home in North Carolina.
Thanks
