Routes / Route through or around Los Angeles.

Hi everyone,
We will be coming down from Vancouver and will be purchasing the ACA maps to follow along.
Just wondering if the road directions go around or through Los Angeles and
if this is a harrowing experience. My wife and I are even considering putting
our bikes on a bus and bypass Los Angeles if the traffic is too craxy. If you
have travelled this route I would appreciate hearing from anyone with thier
experiences. Our final destination is San Diego. Thanks for any responses.

General Discussion / Campsites and bike theives!

For those that have toured and stayed at campgrounds, I was
wondering about safely leaving your bike and gear during the
day at your campsite while you check out the local sites by foot.
Has anyone had problems with thieves or is this just not advisable?
Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Gear Talk / sleeping bags

Hi everyone,
Just looking to purchase a 3 season synthetic sleeping bag. Cost is not an issue. I'm wondering who is using what brand and if you are happy with it? My only concern is to keep it as small as possible for travelling on my bike. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your responses. Have a great day!

Gear Talk / Bar End shifters vs

I'm about to have a custom touring bike made with bar end shifters. Another rider sent me an email saying I should reconsider as he thought they were a little twitchy to use. The alternate is of course going to something like shimano 105 shifters. Going this route would also drastically change the gearing available. Anyone with experience using both would be appreciated. I've primarily been riding mountain bikes so this is out of my knowledge base. Thanks for any replys!
