Will be finishing the Divide in mid to late October and need to meet a friend in Vegas. Anyone ridden portions or all of this route that could offer advice or road conditions? Need a suggested route or if we shouldn't bother attempting it.

Thanks,

Scott

Routes / Great Divide Canada?
« on: August 06, 2014, 03:22:20 pm »
About to launch off on our Great Divide mission and was wondering if anyone had any last minute route info especially for the Canada section. From what I can tell the Elkford to Sparwood section is the only real problem now? and bypassable using the highway. Any info would be extra cool. In Jasper heading south tomorrow. So psyched.

General Discussion / Mailing drop boxes to be held at post offices?
« on: March 21, 2014, 01:03:42 pm »
Hoping to ride from Alaska to Banff, AB and then ride the Divide route down to New Mexico. Wondering if anyone has experience with mailing drop packages to U.S. and Canadian post offices? How does it work? How do you label your package? Also, if I place an order for tires or parts along the route can I have a retailer drop mail them to be picked up down the road somewhere at a post office? or have a relative mail them out? Just not exactly sure how this system works.

Thanks for any insight –

Gear Talk / Schmidt Dynamos for charging batteries… HELP!
« on: March 07, 2014, 12:01:50 am »
I have been devouring information for weeks trying to figure out if a Schmidt Dynamo will provide me with what I need on tour. Oddly enough I don't care about lights or a phone or my iPod losing charge. My main concern is camera batteries. I admit up front that I know very little about electricity. I do know (now) that a straight USB connection is not going to do the trick. Have been focusing on the Busch & Müller e-Werk as a converter but am not sure what I am looking at for voltage and current needs. I am shooting with a Olympus PEN E-P5 which takes a 7.6V battery and has a two-prong wall charger. Excuse my ignorance but can I just get a female plug, tie it into the system and go?

Other converters? Cache batteries?

Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated. Need to order my parts ASAP but wondering if this is going to be a viable solution? Stressing me out.

Thanks in advance!

Scott
