Hey! I rode through 6 countries in Europe, and made a movie about it! I rode through the golden hills in Tuscany, crossed the Swiss Alps, followed the Bright Blue Rivers in Austria, rode along the Medieval Castles in Germany, and ended in the bicycle capital of the world (Amsterdam). This film features massive mountain passes, stealth camping, hitch hiking, and fast downhills! I have been a lurker on this website for YEARS, and I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. Routes / Question about Katy Trail and rain

I am going to be on the Katy Trail tomorrow, and it is supposed to rain for  the next three days. I am carrying 65 pounds of gear, and my tires are not good in dirt. Do you guys think that the trail will get soft and difficult to ride, considering the forecast? Also, are there roads that go parallel to the trail that I could ride on? Thanks!

Routes / Just a heads up for those cycling through Kansas on the Trans Am...

The section between Leoti and Scott City is extremely dangerous!!!!!! There is no shoulder, and semi trucks are driving on this route constantly. I had to pull over whenever there was a Semi Truck coming because there is no room for cyclists. Several locals told me that there have been a couple of cycling deaths during the last couple of years on that road.

My advice is just pull over whenever you see the trucks coming...... it will slow your pace a little, but it might save your life.

Routes / Need advice about riding through Kansas

I am currently in Leoti, Kansas. I am planning on picking up the Katy Trail one Windsor, Missouri. I was thinking about leaving the Trans Am and going straight across to Windsor, instead of cutting south with the Trans Am. If I do that, am I missing out on the most beautiful part of Kansas? I know there is the Prairie trail that starts in Iola and ends in Ottawa as well.... thoughts??

I am currently in Utah, riding the Western Express route. Does anybody know if the current wildfires in Colorado will affect the Western Express route that goes through Colorado? Thanks a lot!

General Discussion / Let's talk injuries!

Hey guys. I have ridden across the USA and Europe. Last year I had an I.T. Band Release Surgery on my knee. It has been 9 months since the surgery, and I am still not fully recovered. I have a fear that I may not be able to ride cross country like I used to.

I would like to know if any of you have had injuries or surgeries in the past, and how did they affect your biking experiences? Please feel free to share your experiences, regardless if they are positive or negative. Thanks!

I have only used Brooks saddles while touring, but I would like to know if anybody uses a different type of saddle? If so, what kind? How do you like it for LONG DISTANCE riding??

Personally, my favorite state to ride in so far has been Montana. I loved all of the rivers, the open land, and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. How about you guys?

Routes / Can I ride the Western Express (Nevada, Utah) in June/July?

I was planning on doing that route NOW, but I injured my knee. I have been planning on riding that route for 2 years, and I would prefer not to ride the Northern Route again.

Is it absolutely not possible to ride through Nevada and Utah during those months because of the weather? What if I woke up early, and got all my riding done by noon?

I'm gonna be in SF on Friday and Saturday. Anybody know of any good campgrounds to stay? (Not ones with sketchy people)

I know there are some outside of the city, but I would prefer to be close to the city

I am looking for a LIGHTWEIGHT comfortable pair of pants that I can wear around camp. Anybody have any recommendations? Sweat Pants??
