Routes / Brittany, Normandy; idea plea
« on: July 26, 2021, 04:15:59 pm »
Bonjour.

Want advice on cycling, 3Q21, Brittany/Normandy (including the factory, site visit, "Normandy hubs") WITH rental bikes.

One, rental bike vendors (Nantes, Dinan, Caen, Bayeux, Honfleur, etc.), value delivered. M/ANY (nice) rental tandems (we, two cyclotourists on the value prowl)?

Two, blue print cycling routes (i.e., published, shared, public travel route options from ~Dinan to ~Bayeux (approximate locations).

Three, ACA route map-like navaids (hi-res print preferred) for Brittany and Normandy.

Four, not-to-miss bike shops in Brittany and Normandy (for any reason, fetish, obsession, Louison-Bobet branded but Mercier bikes).

Five, information the on "Normandy" branded hub manufacturer. The factory site (live or dead). Better/worse than visiting the Campagnolo factories?

Six, actual experience summaries on travel routes, not limited to 'road conditions' (widths, surfacing, traffice volumes, topographic profiles, etc.).

Seven, 40-70 miles daily travel on (likely) crummy (rental) road bikes... need racks (F+R) to carry very minimal (hiking GR65) loads.

Eight, public transportation suggestions from NANTES, north, to Brittany and Normandy (to get to a start point, loop, or, out-and-back).

Nine, thank you for your considerable consideration, given message  L E N G T H. Sheesh.

All the Best,
Au revoir,
Adios,

Onward,
Yours awheel cycling,

Greetings.

I need help with bike rentals in 2018. NW Italy, near Via Francigena, not EV5.

For context, we two experienced cyclists plan to travel by muscle power, ~1000km, from St. Bernard Pass to Rome, September-October 2018, by way of the Via Francigena hiking trail. Walking mostly. Cycling maybe (with point-to-point bike rentals).

We are hunting bike rentals for cycling portions of the Via Francigena hiking trail.
Here’s a ‘very loose plan’, with known knowns, and known unknowns, and unknown unknowns.

Scenario one. Pickup (Ivrea) and dropoff (Piacenza), once. The knowns are locations Ivrea and Piacenza. The unknowns are dates and times. For sake of valuation, let’s try these provisional and very tentative dates, subject to change as of 23 May 2018. Pickup September 17?. Tentative dropoff September 19?.

Scenario two. Pickups in Ivrea (September 17?) and Aulla (October 1?), or nearby.

Dropoffs in Piacenza (September 19?) and Gambassi-Terme (October 3?), or nearby.

Clunkers are fine, fancy bikes, not so. Needed are reliable multi-speed (7s) bikes with racks. Needed standover heights are 31 inches (79 cm) and 28 inches (71 cm). Cost quotes/trades/barters welcome.

If you, friends, fiends, or other associates, cannot provide any assistance, please suggest other wild, out-of-the-box, or sane ideas for short hop, point-to-point, bicycle rentals in rural NW Italy.

Thank you for your consideration.

Onward,
Hunting two bikes,
Yours awheel cycling,
Soon to be walking to Rome,
Al
