Routes / West to East - Indiana and Ohio
« on: January 29, 2017, 04:40:18 am »
Good morning (UK time).
Cheers for all the help on my other posts so far - if anyone plans on coming to Scotland to cycle,  hopefully I can give you some pointers.
My route planning across America has so far taken me to the Deke Slayton Museum in Sparta,  Wisconsin - from here I plan to head South East to Indiana and head East to Ohio (eventually heading to New York). I would really like to travel through the Amish areas - see the horse drawn carts,  traditions, etc but not intrude.   Any suggestions on routes?   Any do and don'ts - don't want to upset or offend anyone.
Cheers again for all your help.
Happy cycling.

Routes / Solo Trip Across America
« on: January 14, 2017, 05:48:02 pm »
Hi folks
I'm planning my bike ride across America - it's going to be a bit of a convoluted route - apart from a couple of weeks in San Fran area never been to America before so want to see as much as possible and not just the shortest route across - but got only got just under 3 months to do it in.
At the moment I'm trying to plan my route from Cody,  Wyoming to Crazy Horse and then Mount Rushmore - from Mount Rushmore planning on cycling in the direction of the Deke Slayton Space and Bicycle Museum in Sparta,  Wisconsin.
Any advice on routes to take / routes to avoid / campsites and hostels etc would be brilliant.
Happy cycling

General Discussion / Trangia Stove / Meths
« on: November 04, 2016, 01:17:35 pm »
Hi all and apologies in advance - I coming from Scotland next year to America,  to cycle from Oregon to Maine and I'm going to bug you all with lots of question -mainly about routes but here are my first 3.
1.  I'm  planning on bringing my Trangia Stove with me - is it quite easy to buy Meths in America and do you call Meths something else??   Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.
2.   Before I start asking questions about routes I wanted to make sure I am using the right terminology so that we are both speaking the same language - eg what I would call the road I think you call the pavement - and what I would call the pavement I think you call the sidewalk.   Can you confirm this please and are then any other helpful words that I should know.
3.  I'm really keen to learn more about Native Americans and get to meet them and learn about their history and culture,  etc - can anyone point me in the direction of some good websites to get me started.
Hope to here from you and happy cycling
Lucy
