Gear Talk / Waterproof Bags at a bargain price
« on: December 02, 2021, 07:32:45 pm »
Do you use trash bags to line your panniers for waterproofing purposes or need a waterproof bag for use when touring?  Take a look at IKEA's Rensare waterproof bags (available online and in the store)   They come in a couple of different sizes:  9 ½x6x18 "/304 oz ($2.99) and 6.25 x 4.75 x 9.5"/85oz ($2.99).  The larger ones fit perfectly into most rear panniers and the smaller ones can be used to segregate content within panniers.   Here is the website:  https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/rensare-waterproof-bag-30461207/#content

1.  Is Adventure Cycling have any affiliation with this proposed ride?
2.  Anyone planning on doing any or all of it?

Great Lakes / Mackinac Bridge
« on: July 10, 2021, 04:41:15 pm »
Need help.   I realize bicycles are not allowed on the Mackinac Bridge.  I learned Bridge Authority no longer offers a shuttle service.  Alternatives:  1) Take ferry from St Ignace to Mackinac Island and then another ferry from the Island to Mackinac City or 2) Find someone to shuttle you across.

#1 is pricey and I don't want to visit the Island (been there, done that) leaving me with option 2.    Does anyone know if there is a shuttle service or of a willing person to transport a bike and its owner across the bridge (for a reasonable fee)?

Gear Talk / Great reference/resource for touring bicycles
« on: September 04, 2018, 07:56:01 pm »
Want to download or look at a great reference/resource for touring bicycles?  Go here:  https://www.thorncycles.co.uk/bikes and take a look at or download the 132 page mega catalog.   The catalog is packed with information about frame geometry, tires, tire pressure, frame angles, materials for frames, rohloff hubs, handlebar types, etc, and of course information on Thorn's bikes.   Disclosure -- I own a Thorn Nomad so I may be a little bias...
