Routes / USBR 30
« on: July 03, 2023, 07:33:01 pm »
Hi folks,

can anyone provide me with the USBR 30 route in GPX format (east to west) please 🙏

I’m currently on a trip coming from the Nothern Tier/Lake Erie Connector and would need to get to Madison, WI for a student revival.

The link on ‘ride with GPX’ provided by ACA does not work with me :/

Safe rides, good ice cream and tail winds to all, Peter

Dear all,

as I'm scheduled for a ride through ACA Adirondack Park Loop and ACA Green Mountains Loop starting the Monday after next I wanted to check back if you have any news on the current situation in terms of air quality and if the wildfires up north are making the region unrideable?

I guess strong winds and/or rain would have an extremely positive effect on the current situation (air wise) so therefore I'm currently sticking to the planed route;

Happy for any updates.

Safe rides and thanks a lot,
Peter

Routes / help needed: route selection (June-July)
« on: May 11, 2023, 10:22:10 am »
Dear touring enthusiasts,

with an unexpected opportunity appearing on the horizon, I finally get the opportunity to hit the road again. Due to the short notice and the time slot of only four weeks I cannot do the ACA TransAm as intended for such occasions.

In detail I considered the following options as a possible alternative:
-   ACA Route 66 (not sure about the timing in terms of heat and winds?)
-   ACA UGRR
-   ACA Sierra Cascades
-   Plaskett/Breuning: Great Divide Road Bike Route: read about it earlier today and this sounds like an interesting route – but couldn’t find more details.

In terms of the timeframe (4 weeks) and timing which one would you suggest. I´m in for the experience of the journey only.

Timeframe: Mid-June to Mid-July
Surface: Road to Gravel (no mountain biking)
Experience: bike and bikepacking (incl. ACA Pacific Coast, TransAlp, etc.), - done a bit of racing and guiding back in the days so 10hrs of riding per day should still be possible 😉

Thanks for your help!
Safe rides,
Peter

Routes / TransAm: dep late March – route advise needed
« on: January 11, 2020, 02:36:52 pm »
Dear cycling folks,

with an unexpected opportunity window opening I´m trying my luck to make a  dream come alive and ride from coast to coast. As so often with unexpected events timing is not perfectly fine, therefore I would kindly ask you for your advice which route through the US to take.

Initial plan waiting in the box was the legendary ACA TransAm route but due to my time window this won´t work out. Now I´ve come up with two other options but I´m not quite sure which one to ride.

Background: aged 30 with sportive background (incl. triathlon), did the ACA Pacific Coast route in 2018 in 30 days. Set-Up is a light weight cycle cross bike (alu frame) or an adjusted road bike with carbon frame.

Timeframe: Last week of March till first week of May (5 weeks)

Route Option 01: ACA Southern Tier; west to east

Route Option 02: LA to Yorktown (via Vegas, Zion NP, Rockie crossing at Chama NM (10,500ft) and Palo Flechado Pass trough Oklahoma into Arkansas, Tennessee finishing on the ACA TransAm at Yorktown; west to east

May I kindly ask for your device – which option should I take, or if you have a third option welcome – am happy for any feedback!

Thanks a lot,
Pieta

Routes / ACA Pacific Coast or ACA Sierra Cascades
« on: June 05, 2018, 04:15:23 am »
Dear adventure cycling community,
Hi folks!

Dreaming of doing a bike touring trip for a couple of years the opportunity window has finally opened and after intensive research I would need your valuable input for selection of the route. Originally the plan was to do a full TransAm (Robert Winning – Bicycling Across America route  – from LA to DC). Unfortunately, I only have 5-6 weeks’ time and the aim of the ride is to unwind and clear my mind as well to get a better feeling of the local culture. Therefore, I was thinking about adjusting the idea and switch to crossing the country from north to south instead.

The following routes seem to make sense – however I´m fully flexible as I have to fly in from Europe anyway:
ACA Pacific Coast
or
ACA Sierra Cascades
or
Combination of both

Earliest start: 04 September
Rider: 31 yrs, good condition (experience including marathon, triathlon, ski touring, etc.) but NO bike touring experience (except road bike training camps); Plan was to stay in B&Bs, hostels and hotels along the way but a light tent will be part of the equipment;

May I please ask for your opinion/input concerning the route option.
What to you think make sense – or do you have any alternative ideas I haven’t come across yet?

Many thanks for your efforts,
servus Peter
