Routes / Canada: Ottawa to Toronto recommendations

I plan to ride Ottawa to Toronto in August.  I will be camping in provincial parks, etc.  I ride a touring bike with no suspension.  I like to go 30-50 miles (50- 75 km) per day, depending on available camping locations.  So probably around 10 days.  I can't really find out if the Trans Can Trail in this area is ok for a touring bike or better for a hybrid or mountain bike?  It looks like it is generally a separate trail, not on road?   

I mostly ride roads (gravel roads ok) but don't like anything too busy if there's no shoulder. Trails are ok if the surface is suitable for a touring bike.  32 mm tires.  It's an older bike and can't fit larger tires.

Routes / Crossing the Palouse in summer

Hello,
I am currently on a cross country trip from Washington DC to the Olympic Peninsula.  Since I am a proud 1986 graduate of the University of Idaho, I am stopping in Moscow Idaho in a day or two.  I am debating how to proceed from the Moscow/Pullman area to Yakima, where I can pick up an ACA route to take me to the Olympic Peninsula.  I would welcome any suggestions from anyone who has done something similar to this.  Basically, I see two options
1.  Leave from Pullman and travel north to Colfax, then west on 26 to Othello.  Then jog down to 24 and go around the Hanford Reach, and cross the Columbia on 24, then on to Yakima
2.  Travel down to Lewiston, and follow the Lewis and Clark as far as Waitsburg, then travel west on 124 to the Tri Cities, and possibly follow either 12 or I82 to Yakima

Option1 seems like it would have much less traffic, but be much more remote.  Option 2 would be more towns but less interesting
I would really appreciate it if anyone has info on where to camp, especially on option1 (Any  possibility of camping in town parks enroute?

Thanks for the info, and I plan on carrying plenty of water, as I know it is hot and remote in eastern Washington!!

General Discussion / Bicycles on Via Rail in Canada

I am currently on a cross country tour in the US.  Once I reach the Pacific Ocean I was thinking of continuing up to Jasper and taking the Canadian rail to points east.  Does anyone have experience taking a bike on Via Rail from west to east?  My other alternative is to ride the Northern Tier east to East Glacier and hop the Empire Builder to Minneapolis.

General Discussion / Cell phone data

Hello,

I am curious what people use for cell phone data in a month while bicycle touring.  I am heading out on a 4-5 month tour this summer in the USA, and will be mostly camping, so wifi chances may be limited.  My cell plan right now includes 2GB of data per month, and wondering if it will be enough.  I will be using my phone for some navigation from google maps (usually only in larger urban centers), and for some daily trip planning.  Just curious what other people use for data on your "average bike tour"

Routes / Northern Tier through Montana

I am planning on riding the northern Tier to the west coast from east to west this summer.  I am wondering about the route through Montana.  It appears from most blogs that cyclists use the US2 route from eastern Montana to Glacier.  I am planning on going on the Montana route #200 through Jordan, Lewistown, Great Falls, etc.  Any information on this route out there?
