Routes / GDMBR Helena, MT to Salida, CO

I'm looking at doing sections 2-4 of the GDMBR starting about 1 July 2026.  The one piece of information I can't seem to find is a recommendation on water carrying capacity.  I'm thinking 4 x 1L bottles and a 2L platypus for any longer dry sections.  This is assuming I'll average 45-50 miles/day.  Comments, anyone?

Routes / Pacific Coast

I'd like to do the Pacific Coast as my first long distance bike tour.  I'm not constrained by the calendar, so I'm wondering what would be the best time of year to do this?  I was thinking May or September - outside the rainy season, and before or after the summer hordes on Highway 1.  I would be traveling N to S. Thoughts?
