Routes / Southern tier Texas portion?
« on: December 28, 2021, 05:04:11 pm »
Hi, thanks everyone for all the advice on my last posts! I'm currently on the Southern Tier in Las Cruces. Our end point is San Antonio (not directly on the route). We heard that much of the route through Texas is the same and the roads aren't great. Is that true? We are a little behind schedule and are considering skipping a section by taking the Amtrak. Is there a section between El Paso and San Antonio you guys recommend skipping/ has rough roads/ is boring? Thanks!!

Hello, so it seems like it is prohibited to ride on 8 in between these cities but people are doing it anyway? I didn't manage to find any detour...

Thanks!

Routes / Southern Tier San Diego -> San Antonio Dec-Jan
« on: December 08, 2021, 12:59:27 am »
Hello!
I did a lots of reading and I know this is not the best time of year to do this but now we(two of us) have the time so yeah.

My main question would be how do you find places to stay during this time of year? (starting probably in a week) I am guessing it's mostly camping. It seems like warmshowers is not what it used to and the alternatives dont have many people along the route on it.

Also how much snow should we expect on the mountain passes in New Mexico?

thanks!
