Gear Talk / Which camera???

Casio Exilim EX-S500 ... just released in the U.S.. Very small. Great
quality with stills and TV resolution video. The interface is really nice as
well. The LCD is also large enough to watch the videos. Caveat: only
takes a LiON battery so you need to charge it ... BUT you can buy
additional batteries ($20-$30) to reduce the need to charge them. If
you are carrying other devices that need charging (cell phone/GPS etc)
you can often figure out a universal method for charging. Ultimately
rechargeables are much friendlier to the planet than alkaline
disposables. The LiOn batteries will outlast alkalines of the same
volume so the camera can be small.
There are several ROBUST (water resistant) camera's out there but they
tend to be on the bulky side.

Routes / NYC to TransAmerican connection

Any recommendations for an energy efficient (read: flat straight line)
route from NYC to somewhere along the TransAmerica route? I'm going
West asap but haven't mapped out the route from the city. I don't care
about scenery, just wanting to minimize the Appalacian rollercoaster. It
seems like connecting somewhere in Kentuky or Illinois would be the
most "direct".
Traversal of New Jersey? Suggestions?

nashbar stocks the Marathons in 26 and 20.
I just put a Marathon XR tire on for a test ride in NYC (=nightmare).
Wicked tire. And they are folding!
Combine with a Salsa Gordo rim and you could ride over a live volcano.
(I got the XR's from Schwalbe direct since nashbar doesn't stock them)
Does anybody have any realworld mileage stats for these tires?
I'm about to beat some to death with a heavy load transam tour.

Crank Brothers Power Pump Pro with built in guage.
93g.
small. sexy.
"up to 120 psi" (guage goes to 160)
has a "volume" and "pressure" switch that really works.
it will take you some time to get above 60psi but given that biking is
mostly good for lower body strength, you need that upper body
workout now don't you!
what's the hurry?
