ME NH and VT may be comfortable , my first 100 degree day was in NY. I started mid June.

When you park, put a rubber band or bungie cord over the brake levers and handle bars which will stabilize the rig.

I am on the Northern Tier now, and thought about doing the SC route after that, but I am not familiar with the weather for that section in the fall. What would usually be the latest to attempt that route? I have not bought the maps yet, but would there be phone numbers on them to call about the passes being closed?

I found REI to be cheaper than going directly to UPS etc. They have a discount account, I didn't. They will ship to store, residence, etc.

Gear Talk / Re: Good Cycling Shorts w/ Chamois

I bought Cannondale cargo shorts from REI and reallllllly like them with the chamois removeable liner that snaps into the shorts with 2 snaps on each side that is quality made with one zipper pocket on the cargo you can open and close with one hand. HOWEVER, I got my first and only saddle sore after about 800 miles with most of them in these shorts. ( washed at least once during that time 
I had brought another pair of Pearl Izumi Ultra Sensor shorts and had never worn them, so I put them on and then put the Cannondale cargo shorts on top of those for the utiltiy of the pockets, and the cargo part has velcro tabs on each side that you tighten up so a belt is not necessary. That has turned out to be the perfect combo for me as I could tell the original Cannondale chamois had a little bit of slack in the fabric and that is why I got the saddle sore, the PI has no slack, fitting snugger at least on me. Doing the Northern Tier as I write this.

General Discussion / Re: Bike security when touring in the USA

On tour now, using 2 cable locks with combination each 4 ft. I can hook both together for 8ft, or use one to lock the bob trailer to pole, picnic table, etc while I ride bike to store etc and have a cable with me to lock it up there. Light weight too. If going in to eat I run cable from trailer frame thru back wheel and bike frame.

My first post here.
I am on the NT now, camping on the Vermont School of Law campus with their permission of course. Wifi all over the campus as I am in my tent. I started at Wells Maine, then rode up to Barhabor so for Maine,NH and Vermont wifi is hard to find as these are rural areas mostly. I might get on the internet once a week. Possible to find more i'm sure, but nothing like you find living in a big city. Other states coming up may have more spots available. Hope that helps.
