Looking for an 7-8 speed internal hub bike that would be used for light touring or randonnuring events.

Does anyone know if there is such a bike out there or would I have to convert one.

Hi Bruno

I really don't like the look of the trekking bars myself but thought the numerous hand positions make sense.

I've been looking at the Rivendell bicycle site (good information plus common sense opinions) and the albatross bars look inviting.

Your suggestion regarding raleigh type bars is interesting since I also ride an older Raleigh sprite and find these handlebars comfortable.

It does have flat bars

Anyone familiar with diamondback products.
Looking at a diamondback (called a transporter)for commuting and light touring. It has a steel frame and fork 48-38-28 gearing. Mountain bike in design with 26" wheels, fenders, braze on for racks and two water bottles.

General Discussion / training over 50 yrs of age

I'm 64 had a triple bypass operation Nov 02.
As said before start slow,low mileage and build up to what you want to achieve.

You can duplicated touring conditions within your neighborhood (ie)hills,head winds etc on a 5-10 mile neighborhood ride.
 
Your doctor should be consulted what you plan to do and how to handle / adjust your prescripitions
 
Use a heart moniter and check with your doctor to decide what the max heart rate not to exceed.

I have had a trainer help me build up my other core body strengths to make sure overall my entire body is in fairly good shape.    

I assume you have a comfortable bike with low gearing to help you achieve your goals.
