Routes / Is April 15 to early to start the TA?

Im retired so I could start anytime but I really dont like the heat and humidity of May, June and July.

 Im very familiar with the Appalachians and dont plan to go very fast through that area or the Ozarks.  Im not planning  to go much more than 60 miles a day on average and hope for an early thaw in the Rockies.  

 I appreciate your advice  thanks!

Oh, and I'll be going westbound!  Should be at Hoosier Pass by the end of May.

Im actually a backpacker with bad feet, so I thought I would take up cycling.  I plan on doing the TransAm trail starting April 15, 2008.  I have a new Trek 520 with all the required stuff for long distance cycling.  What I need to know is April 15 to early to start and anything else a beginning long distance cyclist should know.

General Discussion / Shipping the bike when trip is over!

I live in NJ and will be going coast to coast westbound  via the TA this spring.  How do I get my bike back to NJ w/o riding it back?  What is the preferred method of shipping a bike home after the trek is over?  Will I be able to find a bicycle shop that will ship it for me in Portland, OR?

General Discussion / Stealth Camping?

After reading a number of journals I notice that everybody either stays in a motel, campground or public park.  Doesnt anybody stealth camp?  While backpacking I am used to hiking until I drop and any flat spot will do!

Is there a reason why cyclists do not do the same?  Is trespassing the problem?  Surely there must be enough open spaces where that is not a problem.
