General Discussion / Bicycle Touring with Dogs
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:44:55 pm »
I recently got a puppy, Sappho, who is a Siberian Husky/American Bulldog mix. She is awesome and wonderful and I can't wait to fully train her run along side my bike. But besides being a cycling companion for recreation and exercise, I also hope to tour with her. I did my first extensive tour last summer (NYC - Seattle, 2 months) and I loved it. I hope to be doing some shorter trips this year around the WA/Canada area.

In case you haven't seen this blog yet, it's truly amazing:

I am totally inspired and will soon have my own DoggyRide trailer. However, since I have never toured with a dog before and I can't seem to get a hold of David, the man from the blog himself, I really hope to hear from everyone/anyone in the cycling community who has experience with their dogs and bikes!

Thanks!

Lara

My name is Lara- my sister and I are going on our first long tour this
summer. NYC- Seattle

We have some Adventure cyclist maps, but the first place it makes
sense to meet up with them from NYC is Cleveland, OH. We have a part
of Jersey and then Pennslyvania!

I am looking for advice in PA: Good routes? Camping? Cheap Food?
Good people? Secret places? Adventures? Friends/Family? Good water?
Fun Things? Swimming!?!?

Any tidbits will do.

We just did Upstate NY without a map, granted we mostly followed 9W,
however we got some fantastic advice from a bike shop in Nyack.

Routes / UTAH! and CA Sierra Nevada's
« on: November 20, 2008, 01:57:22 pm »
Thanks Sean, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post.
I'm not absolutely positive as to what I am looking for either, seeing as
you never really know until you're there on your bike. However - in
regards to Utah, I like the AC route, but want to explore the state
more...I'd probably add on a north to south route and then do a National
Parks loop or something.
Anyway, thanks again!

Routes / UTAH! and CA Sierra Nevada's
« on: November 17, 2008, 07:38:13 pm »
Hello Cycling Friends,

I am currently looking for any information on Cycling Utah. I am interested in hitting up all the National Parks - or anything else wonderful in Utah that people may recommend.
Of course, I am familiar with the AC maps and will look at them more, but I'm not finding the best information online yet. I also prefer first hand experienced advice. Anyway, would love to hear what you have to say.
This also goes for biking in the Sierra Nevadas. I'm interested in finding a route that would go lengthwise down them, allowing me to stop and go climbing in certain areas. Has anyone on this site done this before?

Short lists, mini essays, and blogs/long stories are welcome!
Thanks!

Lara

Routes / HELP! CHICAGO TO NEW YORK CITY
« on: November 17, 2008, 07:41:27 pm »
Hi,

My sister and I just rode NYC to Chicago (actually all the way to Seattle, WA) this summer. Our blog with our route is:
http://usatobicycle.blogspot.com

It wasn't the most fantastic route in the world to take, but we had a really awesome time and met lots of wonderful people. It was a spectacular adventure because we were largely not on AC maps (if at all) during that time period.

Actually, I am looking at our route map now and I can't say it is as complete as I thought it would be. However, I have saved all the maps that we used over the course of the trip and I could be happy to make copies of them and send them to you if you are interested in using them as a reference.

Let me know.
Please get in touch with me if you need more details/have questions. Sounds like an awesome ride!!

Lara
