When it comes to traveling alone, just don't admit your alone if you feel someone is sketchy. Just mention touring with a group, waiting for the SAG Wagon, or waiting for you boy friend who went off into the bushes 1/2 mile back for a bio break.

I copied this above from another person- Linda

I have biked solo in Europe and the US,  southern tier, underground RR and others and I have had no problem. Don't look the person in the eyes if they pull up along side of you.  I suggest being willing to spend a few extra dollars to stay in a hotel when it is necessary because of bad weather or no good place to stay. I am thinking right now of going from richmond, va to St. Augustine on the Atlantic route by myself and I  am 80 .  Wish me luck. I am a member of AAA and did use that for  ride once.

I think so- I wanted to know how to get from Richmond to hook up to the Atlantic coast route to Florida.  I'll check out that route
Thank you so much.

Information in this forum is at a minimum on the  URR.  Please give thoughts on going from Cincinnati to Mobile starting in early September.
Hurricanes?, tornadoes? temperatures? etc.

Are dogs indeed an issue in these states??  I have biked in KY on the TA.
going solo - a woman- not first time

I did the ferry last year- I am the poster and there was absolutely  NO problem taking my bike and gear so I do not know what all the hoopla was about that I had to think about. Linda

Routes / ferry from Key West to Ft. Myers

I have checked with the ferry company and they allow only a carry on size bag and a bike with no panniers attached.  Has anyone gone on the ferry with all their gear( 4 panniers plus handlebar bag, sleeping bag and pad) ?

How busy are the AC routes in Florida?  Does anyone have experience with them? The description indicates rather busy.

General Discussion / Re: Is it ok to travel solo...

I am a 70 year old woman who has soloed on the Underground RR , the Danube River in Europe, Netherlands, the northern tier from NH to Rochester, NY, From Missoula to Washington state, and around Lake Champlain.  The only thing to fear is fear itself.  I am not a great athlete just a regular sort of person, but you have to trust people, have faith, use common sense and intuition and it is ok. It is good to know how to change a flat and maybe have a credit card or some cash  as money can always get you a taxi.  I fear dogs the most. People are the best part. A good map helps me.

General Discussion / losing weight and touring weight

I have lost 10 pounds.  Can I carry 5-10 pounds more weight in my panniers and equal the same amount of work load while pedaling?

Has anyone any information about bicycling in Poland? If you have websites or personal info, I would like to hear about it.
