You can always use a portable light weight electric fence. You will be able to sleep soundly.

General Discussion / Adventure Cycling Web Site
« on: June 29, 2007, 11:58:48 pm »
I am having problems connecting to the site at night. Most of the time I cannot connect on weekends or after dark. Does anyone else have this problem? I have no problems with any other site and I have no problems with my computor. This started a few months ago. Any help would be appreciated.

General Discussion / 100 lb+ loads
« on: September 24, 2006, 08:23:58 pm »
What does a rider carry that makes up 100-120 pounds? I am talking additional weight and not counting bike or trailer. Are these riders carefull to avoid long grades (miles long) above 4%? I read about many rides in the "Register Your Ride" section of the site where riders pedal thousands of miles with loads exceeding 100lbs. How is this done? Do they go 6MPH on a flat grade? Do they travel more than 50 miles in a day? Does all this weight take a toll on the legs and feet? If you have experience here, I would like to hear from you.

General Discussion / Numbness in the Seat
« on: September 05, 2006, 03:27:07 am »
Google it.  I bought my wife a Tour Easy and it was the answer to all discomfort.  No more sitting pain, no more hand numbness, no more neck and back issues. Biking became fun.  We ride bikes on our Tour Easies and have lots of fun without pain.

General Discussion / Lots of hurting bikers out there
« on: August 23, 2006, 02:58:51 am »
In the last 12 years....I have tried no less than a dozen seats. I have tried at least as many different gloves. I have had four bikes and adusted seat and handlebar height over and over. I was ready to quit biking. I tried a recumbent Tour Easy. Problems solved!!! Now I ride and ride and ride.

General Discussion / Women who've gone x-country alone?
« on: June 27, 2006, 03:41:35 am »
This discussion is played over and over again on this forum...and for good reason.  It is most precarious for solo women.  Besides all the common sense, here are a few extras: 1) When talking to a stranger, look back as if you are riding with and waiting for someone and make a vague mention of "a companion". 2) Wear earthtone "dowdy" clothing to make yourself look less attractive.  3) Mace is not good enough.  Carry Bear-Spray by U-Dap.

Safe riding,

You made the right choice. I hope you don't have to use the bear spray.  Advice: practice different adverse scenarios. Always be assertive and confident.  Do not show confussion.

Women have a whole new set of potential problems traveling alone, especially attractive women. I would not let that stop you but you need to be smart.  Know where you are, who is around you and do not go into denial mode (everything is ok). Do not take unneccesary risks. A PISTOL is out of the question. It will give you a false sense of security and may get you in trouble.  BEAR SPRAY by UDAP is the answer.  It can drop 10 men to their knees in a second.  You do not need to be accurate. They make a bike holder, hip holster, and chest holster. UDAP Bear spray with caution and common sense is the answer. Good luck!

General Discussion / anyone carry'n heat?
« on: June 17, 2005, 06:46:50 am »
The self defense answer is: BEAR SPRAY!.http://www.udap.com/product.htm  A gun can be ineffective and get you in a whole lot of trouble.  I carry a can of Halt for the lone pesky agressive dog and a can of UDAP Bear Spray for packs of dogs, bears, and humanoids.  A split second shot of UDAP Bear Spray from upwards of twenty five feet away, can stop a pack of dogs in their tracks, and can drop 10 people immediately.  I sleep with the stuff. The can is under very high pressure and delivers a devistating punch.  Mount and use a rear view mirror but also carry BEAR SPRAY.
