New England / suggested route from Bedford to Portsmouth
« on: February 19, 2011, 07:59:36 pm »
Ok, so a group of us (Canadian women road bikers) are cycling from Boston to Portland Maine, stopping halfway at Portsmouth. We are probably taking the Minuteman Trail from Cambridge to Bedford to get out of town. Any suggested routes from there to Portsmouth, preferably scenic and not too busy?

Cycling in Newfoundland is wonderful, awesome scenery! Did a tour from Deerlake to St Anthony last summer and it was well worth it. Parts of Gros Morne Park are challenging but beautiful, reasonable roads and the traffic thins the further north you go. Take a trip on the ferry at St Barbe to Labrador (I only did a day trip) but make sure you have a bug net for your face at least, because insects can be fierce. Don't expect warm weather or great food though there are some exceptions. NB, NS and PEI all have sections that are great to cycle in.

Routes / cycling from Portland Maine to Boston

A group of us (Canadian women recreational cyclists) plans to cycle from Portland Maine to Boston in August as part of a cycling trip in Maine (probably taking the train the reverse direction or vice versa). Wondering about route choices (road bike), and which part of Boston we should stay in to be able to get in/out of town readily. This trip is only about 110 miles but we may stop part way to see the sights.
