General Discussion / Re: Miami Airport or Orlando Airport
« on: October 15, 2011, 05:04:34 pm »
Hi,
Have contacted LBS in St Augustine who will pack my bike for air flight. Air Shuttle company will pick me and baggage up
and deposit all at Orlando Airport.  Bit costly but worth it for peace of mind. Sorted.  Thanks all for advise.

General Discussion / Miami Airport or Orlando Airport

Hi, I have booked to cycle the Southern Tier, supported, with ACA next March/May. As I live in the UK I am looking at flights.  Getting to San Diego start is ok but I need advise for finishing.   I can try to get me, bike, 2 bags to Orlando Airport from St Augustine, about 100 miles, or go to Jacksonville Airport, 53 miles. Unlike Orlando, which would be a direct flight, if I use Jacksonville I would have to change at Miami Airport and would have 1 hr 23 min to catch my connecting London flight.  Would you recommend Orlando or Jacksonville and if Jacksonville would I have enough flight change time in Miami.

Thanks, Barry. That good info. I'll certainly give Virgin Atlantic a look.

Routes / Sourhern Tier Route-Travelling from UK- Help
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:06:16 am »
Hi,  I hope to cycle the Southern Tier Route next year with ACA. If anyone from the UK, reads this, who has already done it, could I pick your brains.
What airline was the best to get you to San Diego and after finishing did you use Jacksonville Airport to return.
Living in the UK, and I live on a Scottish Island, how did you cope with the heat and humidty.  The trip starts in March
and finishes in May.
I have many more questions so hope there is someone out there who can help me.

General Discussion / Southern Tier- Travelling from UK - Help

Hi,

ACA have advised me to use the forum to seek advice on the following:
I hope to cycle the Southern Tier Route with ACA next year. I will be travelling from
the UK and am looking for someone who has already done this tour and can give me some help.
I am looking for
1) What airline did they use?
How many days in advance did they arrive?
I would hope to fly direct to San Diego but how did they return?

2) How did they cope with the climate.  I live on a Scottish island and this summer the temp.
    has not exceeded 24 Degrees.

It would be great to have a chat with someone from the UK and just pick their brains.

Hope there is someone out there who can help me with many more questions.

Hi DnD,   Yep, hoping on 2012 but plan to do it with ACA.  Ideally, would love to do it solo, as that is how I like to cycle tour, but family would have a fit. Good luck with your plans.

Hi,
I too am planning my first Southern Tier but wondering when to go climate wise.  Would March,April,May be better than Sept., Oct., Nov.
The temperatures look much the same but perhaps more windy in the autumn.  I take it the route is prettier in the spring with flowers etc.
Any comments would be appreciated.
