Routes / Blue Ridge Parkway / Skyline Drive input

Hello

I am prepping for a solo self supported camping/lodge tour of Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge parkway late Sept / early Oct this year. I will be traveling south from Front Royal to Asheville via Mount Mitchell.

I am practicing on what hills we have here in NE Ohio (there are a few in Geauga and Summit counties) loaded as well as distance riding. Also camp set up and teardown. I'll be on my Waterford 1900 and self contained, but will splurge on a couple lodges along the way.

I have the 1990s book by " Cycling the Blue Ridge" by Elisabeth and Charlie Skinner, and online resources like http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/ and http://blueridgeskyline.com/

I'd welcome any input, advice, tips..........

I am planning a solo ride of the Skyline Drive/BRP starting at Front Royal and ending at Mt Mitchell/Asheville. I too will be seeking week long parking at the Northern end of Skyline.  My start date is around mid Sept '12. I will call the Front Royal PD, and I will also see if the hotel I am staying at my first night will accommodate me, as I will stay another night there on the return trip in a one-way rental car.

Any input is appreciated

Hello,

Cyclist from Euclid, OH (Cleveland). Circumnavigated Lakes Erie and Ontario (solo) back in 1998 with ACA maps. Continue to commute and ride whenever I can. Also in planning stages of Northern Tier Route for 2013. Would like to do some shorter tours in 2012.
