I jumped on the forum hoping to find a thread about this route, sweet! I am planning to do the Atlantic Coast section seven route in two weeks. The plan is to start from St. Augustine and head south to the keys, then take the ferry to Ft. Meyers to join the Florida connector route and end in Orlando.
I will be traveling by myself for 80% of the journey, and plan on strapping my sleeping bag, tent and stove to my rack and heading off. My only concern will be the camping arrangements, or lack there of. Will I be able to find camp grounds along the way? And if I cannot find camp grounds, what are the chances of me finding a spot to pitch a tent without breaking any laws? I am planning on knocking on some doors and asking to pitch my tent wherever I can if it comes down to it.
I am a 20 year old who only wishes to escape the stresses of finals week at school and see the entire state that I live in. I am excited to test myself, and to see how this turns out. If everything goes smoothly, I can see myself making much larger trips across the country next.
