Serfas RX saddle. I do century racing, double metric centuries, ride every single day 25 to 60 miles. It is a comfortable seat for long distance with the right cloths. Also, putting time in the seat, lots of time is the only way to build up tolerance.

I've always had good luck with Fed Ex. Usually go to the local bike shop, pick up a bike box for nothing, (they use them for trash after they pull the new bike out). Just shipped a Cannondale T2 to Vegas from Nothern Michigan for $72 with $1100 insurance on it.

Lifting light weights with lots of repetitions, swimming, hundreds of standups on the spinner bike with slight brake pressure once or twice a week.

I did a century race on a Trek 1.2. I could not imagine riding it across a state let alone the USA. Great bike for a 150 lb racer on a buget. I have a brand new never ridden Cannondale Touring 2 for sale on Ebay. User name v-max4power, 100% positive feedback rating on 193 transactions. Great bargin for your cross country trek. I also have it for sale on this site. Price is $1199, $50 shipping to the lower 48. Email me with any questions. mini_z_2000@yahoo.com

I am talking about Conti GP 4000's. Looking at Conti web site it looks like the gator hardshell 700x28 is the tire. Still not ruling out GP 4000 700x25. It would push the weight limit but tough tires, great wear

The only reason I removed the 4000's and replaced them with new 4000's was to do a timed century ride and didn't want to take a chance on a flat. They must have close to 5000 on them (one flat) and I swear I could get another 1000. Hope I;m that lucky traveling the Northern Tier

When the Michigan weather breaks I'll put some serious miles on the bike and have everything checked before I leave. The comment is right about the Michigan trains not having checked baggage. Going to leave from Milwaukee now. As far as tires, if Continental tires make the 4000 in the size I need I will definitely run them. 4000 to 5000 miles on my road bike, one flat. Thanks for the replies

« on: February 09, 2012, 06:56:17 pm »
A WEEK AGO I PURCHASED A NEW 2011 CANNONDALE TOURING 2. IN MID JUNE I'M GOING TO TAKE IT ON A TRAIN FROM MICHIGAN TO EVERETT, WA AND RIDE BACK TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN. FIRST BIG TRIP EVER. WHAT STOCK PARTS ON THE BIKE SHOULD I CONSIDER CHANGING OUT, (TIRES, SPOKES, CRANK BEARINGS, WHEEL BEARINGS, ETC). ALREADY HAVE MY PEDALS. USING MY SADDLE FROM MY CANNONDALE S4 MTB, (VERY COMFORTABLE). I'M VERY MECHANICALLY INCLINED BUT WANT TO LIMIT MAJOR PROBLEMS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. ANY HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
