Just finished my tour - I ended up changing my route signitificantly...  it was a combination of Northern Tier, Lewis & Clark, and TransAmerica, but ended up as Northern Tier, some Amtrak, and some wandering around out west.  Great trip!

I have the following maps available for sale - all are in excellent, or brand new condition:

Northern Tier Section 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3
Lewis & Clark Section 4, 5

Gear Talk / Re: Selle SMP saddle?

4 days in on my new Selle SMP Glider - very comfortable, but hard.  I didn't have much time in the saddle (any saddle) prior to leaving, so the jury is still out  on it being a good tour saddle.  It "fits" very well though, I'm impressed - it will definitely live on my road bike when I'm done touring.  My bike is set up a little sportier than most tour bikes, so it works out well in the hoods and pretty well on top of the bar - makes me keep my back straight too!

so far so good- I'm 4 days in to my cross country ride, and it's working out perfectly.  I plan on shedding a few random items this weekend to lighten the load even more!

Gear Talk / 4 Front (small) panniers?

Does anyone tour with 4 front (typically small) panniers instead of 2 fronts and 2 rears?  I'm going to pack my sleeping bag in a drybag and leave it on the rack in back, so I don't think I need any more than 4 small panniers + a handlebar bag.

My long distance backpacking experience is saying "minimalism" but everything I read about gear lists says, "lots of stuff."  Thoughts?
