Routes / Re: Atlantic coast bycle route

Hi
I did Miami to New York in 2006, routing thru Wilmington. My route stuck close to the coast and included the Outer Banks off N Carolina which are well worth the visit. Winds were mostly in my favour (but I went the opposite way to you). I used motels but saw a lot of camping grounds. Traffic was fine but that was in late May - my problems were south of Wilmington. It was a great trip but invest in good maps and make sure you get to the  Chesapeake bridge/tunnel during off-peak traffic hours during the day (they provide a truck to take bikes across and you may need to wait some time!).

Routes / Transamerica advice please....

Hi learned friends
I'm sure my question has been covered before so apologies in advance....
I'm planning to fulfil a lifetime ambition and ride across the US next year with three friends - starting late May. We will stay in motels/B&B and carry emergency sleepsack and food/water supplies. We are all experienced cyclists. Our prioirty is the overall experience and to enjoy the people we meet on the way. We hope to achieve around 75 mpd. Which route of Southern, Northern and Bicentennial offers the best mix of weather, cycling experience, accomodation, facilities, scenery, people and 'fun'?? And which way is best? East/west or west/east? Thanks!
