General Discussion / Re: Anybody know George & Greg from Pennsylvania?

Thanks, John! I’ve come up empty on Crazy Guy on a Bike and CycleBlaze and with every kind of Google search I could think of. I don’t think they were the posting and journaling types. 😊 BikeForums is a good idea!

General Discussion / Anybody know George & Greg from Pennsylvania?
« on: January 20, 2023, 01:53:15 am »
During my ride on Bicycle Route 66 in May 2022, I had the pleasure of meeting the two characters pictured — George and Greg from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. We saw each other several times over a few days in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. We enjoyed telling stories and sharing experiences at convenience-store stops and while riding together. I never thought to suggest that we exchange contact info. If you happen to know them, please let me know here or ask them to post a reply. I’d like to hear how the rest of their ride went. … I mention our encounters on the May 5 and May 7-9 entries in my online journal: https://sites.google.com/view/richardsride/new-mexico/day-35-may-5

General Discussion / Re: I don't like dogs! (around my bike)

Maybe I’m just lucky, but I discovered a method that worked every time in more than a dozen dog encounters during a three-month, cross-country ride (LA to Massachusetts). As soon as I spotted a dog or dogs heading toward me, I’d call out to them as if we were old friends. “There’s my boy! Good to see ya! How ya doin’?” That usually slowed their dash to the road. (I’d swear that a few times I could see them turning their heads in confusion, as if thinking this was not how the routine usually went. The cyclist was supposed to act like an animal being chased!) If they they kept coming and approached the road I abruptly blasted them with a change in tone: “HEY! GET OUTTA THE ROAD! BACK TO THE HOUSE! NOW! GO ON!” With that, they put on the brakes and watched me go by. If I still had time, for karma’s sake I’d praise their good behavior. “Good dog!” It was one of my proudest achievements of the ride.
