Routes / Hamilton to Butte via Skalkaho Pass

My route this summer will take me over Skalkaho Pass ]I hope. Riding REI Safari. Will the road be passable. How long is the gravel part?
How rough/graded us the gravel part? My parents took the Skalkaho to Butte when they were newlywed to visit in-laws in Anaconda. I would like to follow their route if doable.

Fantastic information.  Not very keen on the dirt road part. Gravel is fine but I don't have a mountain bike. This is my first tour since 79 when I went Missoula to Seattle. Much younger then. Let's see how this one plays out. Thanks for the help.

Travelling Helena-Missoula-Conner-Wisdom-Butte-3forks-Helena. Can anyone update the Missoula through Wisdom route. Hiway 93 was a hazard when I grew up in Montana. How is the road south out of Missoula to Conner, over the pass and down into Wisdom. I plan a solo ride in August. The loop will take me back to my hometown for my 40th HS reunion. Go Capital High Bruins.
