Gear Talk / Re: Panniers. Waterproof or non waterproof?

On my Ortlieb rear panniers I used outside pockets for frequently used items and was very handy.Never had any problem with condensation even though waterproof fab. On x US Northern Tier tour, I learned to organize items (cubin fiber and zip lock bags.....waterproof overkill!) and always repack the same side and sequence. On front fork I used Salsa Anything cages and Anything bags that just perfectly accommodated my sleeping system, bag, bag liner, pad and pillow.

Very very happy with the Ortlieb very durable and waterproof fabric. No worry about water protection on your contents inside

Gear Talk / Re: Shimano Cycling Sandals
« on: March 14, 2019, 09:43:30 pm »
I know that this topic has been beat to death, but...

I have used Shimano Cycling Sandals for years and my SH-SD65 models are getting a bit worn out.

I have tried the newer SH-SD5, but no amount of adjustment allows them to be comfortably worn.

Does ANYONE know where I might find some NOS (New Old Stock) SH-SD65 sandals in 41/42 size?

The SD5 has two straps and the ones I want, the SD65 has three straps.

I have tried many regular bike websites and Ebay, all with no luck.

I should have bought a few pair when they were available, because eventually a great product gets changed and it doesn't work for you anymore.

The image shows what I am looking for.

Thanks,
Keith
I think the new model is better. It’s a great product too. Don’t be stuck in time. Adapt!

Leave it as is and be careful on the security thing. Have a 12 Fargo Ti. Just looks great 5 yrs later and lots of miles. Just a simple clean look and I smile when I ride too!

Hi,

I just ordered a Ti frame.  I have the option of painting it or not.  It's expensive, and nothing is more beautiful than a bare Ti bike.

But I am leaning towards painting it bright yellow, for two reasons:

1.  Reduce its theft attractiveness
2.  Be more visible

The visibility part I handle anyways with clothing and blinky lights front and rear.  The real question is theft avoidance.

What do you think?

And of course, I will be locking it.  But still.

Are you domestic? If so, look into blikeflights.com. It's essentially a discount broker for FedEx bike shipping. Almost always  cheaper than flying with a bike/shipping a bike by air. Some REI location will receive you bike and assemble it for a relatively low price. Call the one in Seattle to ask. With origin and destination zips, estimated weight and size of box, you can get an on line quote.
Thanks will use the shop to shop FedX. Not a REI fan. Just read your post on some of the MT 56 alter. Thanks for that!

Routes / Doing NT beginning June 2018

Plan to fly bike prior to departure. I assume Seattle? Want to do few days San Juan’s and then depart Anacortes. Think there is a shuttle from Seattle correct? Does the bike shipping service select a bike shop or is there one I should pick. Know any there?
