Routes / Great Divide MBR to San Diego dirt road connection recommendations wanted

We're currently in New Mexico on the GDMBR and plan to ride across to San Diego from either Silvercity or Hatchita. We'd prefer to do at least some of this off paved highways and wondered if anyone has done something similar, or has any suggestions please!
We're riding rigid 29" Surly Ogres with light touring loads so happy to do some mountain biking provided there's not too much super technical stuff - We've loved all the rougher more technical sections of the GDMBR

Hi,
We're currently coming down the Great Divide route and plan to intersect the Southern Tier and ride west to San Diego in late Nov/early Dec. Can anyone tell me if this route is all on paved roads, that are likely to be kept open through any early winter snow falls?

Temporary ACA Route Road Closures / Great Divide MBR, Section 1, Map B Cottonwood Lakes Rd closed, late Sept 2016

A culvert is being replaced on the Cottonwood Lakes road, at approximately mile 12 after leaving Seeley Lake. The entire road has been dug up. A forestry worker we spoke to said the posted detour was right out to Highway 83.
The construction crew were kind enough to let us take a look at the hole, which we decided to climb through with our panniers and then bikes. It was rocky and muddy but doable with two people. It should be completed in about two weeks.
