General Discussion / Re: Lake Michigan tour advice

also planning a trip to northern michigan in september, just picked up the book "Biking Northern Michigan" off amazon. Looks good, have just skimmed through it though. Updated in 2018. Local history, dining spots, etc. Includes suggestions for linking together some of the day trips into longer loop rides (one up to 450 miles).

I stayed at the hostel with some friends while touring (maybe 5 years ago). It was decent, and had a safe place to lock up your bike.

Gear Talk / Re: How many touring bicycles?

I've worked out a formula for how many bikes one should own:
(# of bikes owned to initiate divorce precedings by your spouse) - one.
If you have a big toy barn (garage) you can always hide a few behind the kayaks and stacks of snow tires

my wife and I recently did ACA's fingerlakes tour, and were encouraged to use the ride with GPS app on our phones.  The routes were planned and provided, and if downloaded (so no cell service required) seemed to use very little power. I was pleasantly surprised once I figured out the bells and whistles of the app.

great article on sheldon brown's webpage on brooks saddles.  Can't remember how much if any it addressed the "wet issue". Keeping a good coat of proofide (I use snowseal) on the underside should help with spray from the tires.
