Another vote for the trangia alcohol stove, or a homemade version.  Cheap, extremely compact, simple, light, and very easy to find fuel anywhere in the world!

I am a retired American living in Medellin Colombia.
I have done some limited touring in the past, and in 2023 I am hoping to find some cyclists who are interested in joining me to do some touring:  Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Chile are possibles.
Please message here me if you are interested.
Thanks in advance

I recently purchased a laminated bamboo handlebar from Passchier in New Zealand
https://www.passchier.co.nz
They are beautiful and extremely comfortable!  Mine are the Gump 650 model.  Perfect for running around Medellin Colombia where I live and they have an extraordinary amount of flex.  I would estimate that there is at least 1/2” of flex at each end.  That really takes the edge off of commuting on crappy streets.
They aren't cheap, unless you compare them to carbon. But they are more comfortable than any handlebar I have ever used before.  Combine them with Ergon cork grips and its almost like having a short travel active front suspension!
I get lots of positive comments on how amazing the laminated bamboo looks.  People here in Colombia are aware of the phenomenal strength and flex of bamboo.

The original costof this bike from Bill Davidson at Elliot bay bikes was well over $7K.

Gear Talk / Re: Best type of saddle (besides Brooks)

I have a Brook that I purchased from the old Spoke and Sprocket in Tacoma Washington in 1993.  It’s almost done, the rivets are pulling out and lifting and its time to retire the old friend...and I am REALLY interested in the Gilles Berthoud saddles.  They are pricey as all git out, but they appear to me to be well designed, and well executed with quality parts and the potential to outlast me for sure
