Gear Talk / Replacement Rim Suggestions!
« on: July 19, 2019, 03:22:57 pm »
Hi All, I need to replace a rim that is cracked around the spokes.  This is my bike: http://www.bikes.com/en/bikes/whistler/2015 (Whistler 70)

I can't find any info on my current clincher rim (700C) for my 32mm tires.  I'm looking to replace it with a rim that is "fast" on pavement and can handle well on dirt and gravel trails.  I don't know much about rim profiles or rim technology, etc, so I'm looking for some suggestions on manufacturers of rims that perform well and aren't too costly.  Also, any links to info on how to choose a rim would be helpful too!  Thanks!

General Discussion / I'm on a quest to find...
« on: June 11, 2019, 12:38:11 pm »
a custom or non-standard style cassette.

My current cassette is this...

Model: Shimano CS-HG50-10
Size: 11-36
Cassette Cogs: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-36

.  I don't find the smaller cogs that useful, esp 11 and 13.  I find the larger cogs more useful for climbing and cycling in general.  Does anyone know where I can find a cassette that has a cog starting with 14 or 15 teeth all the way up to a cog that has 38 or 40 teeth?  The climbing gears would be much more of a benefit to me.  Thanks!

Gear Talk / Ulock mounting options
« on: June 01, 2019, 09:39:05 pm »
Hi All, Has anyone heard of aluminum ulock mounts? I'm not really finding any online.  I've quickly broken three plastic ones with standard use. They don't seem very durable at all.  Or if anyone has creative ways to mount your ulock?  Thanks!

Gear Talk / Topeak Rack Qs
« on: June 01, 2019, 01:54:27 pm »
Hi, Does anyone have experience with Topeak racks and bags?  I'm looking to get the MTX TRUNKBAG DXP bag with one of the following racks.  I have a hybrid bike with disc brakes, so I'm looking at disc brake model racks.

There's a lot of choice in Topeak racks, so I'm reaching out to anyone who has experience with them.

Considerations:

The DX models have a separate bar for panniers, but I'm not looking to get full on panniers atm as the trunk bag comes with saddle bags that fold up when not needed.  Do the bars on the DX models have any other use?
The "UNI" models have adjustable legs which seems like a good option as I'd like to set the legs lower as I've heard a lower centre of gravity of better for bike stability.

I'm also little concerned with the saddles bags either fouling with the wheels or interfering with peddling.  Anyone have experience with this?

Also, Anyone have any experience with the springs on Topeak racks?

I'm open to suggestions as well  Thanks everyone!
