Routes / Hwy 6 and 89 in utah closed - Sept. 2018

Just a heads up for those  bicycle touring through Utah. Hwy 6 and 89 in Utah is closed for now because of heavy smoke and fire spreading. Alternative route is suggested for now. I will try to keep Adventure Cycling updated about the fires.

Routes / Cycling from Utah to ACA HQ

My main question is does anyone know any back roads or save roads for bicycle touring from Utah all the way to Adventure Cycling Headquarters ? I am attending the Cycle Montana bicycle tour in June of 2017 and I am riding my touring bicycle from Provo Utah all the way to ACA HQ. What is the best maps to use to find my way to Missoula ? Should I try to find whatever I can through ACA maps or is Google Maps my best option to get to Missoula on time and safely ?

Routes / Weather condition on bicycle Tour for 2015

I'll be traveling across all 50 U.S States and more this April in 2015 and I am wondering what the weather conditions could be around Pacific, Central and Eastern States ? I'll be starting in Provo Utah and I'll be headed towards Missoula Montana, Washington Tri State, California etc. And I am aiming towards the first or second week of April 2015.

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Next year I have decided to go on my very first solo bike tour. And I will be visiting three states while I am out there just to see family and friends.
I'll be traveling to Montana Headquarters first because I always wanted to see the kind people there. The next state will be Washington Tri States and San Jose and Hollywood California. My main question is are there actual Adventure Cycling maps for those routes that I will be going on ? I have looked at different maps from ACA but I can't seem to find the rights once and there is always the option of using Google Maps and I could buy myself a bike gps unit.
I would like to hear everyone's option about this and what is the best routes and safest roads to travel on ? I'll even consider going around the long way to make it safer but anything will help.

GPS & Digital Data Discussion / Computer GPS vs ACA maps

I am a very active cross country cyclist and i was wondering what would be more ideal for a tour if the routes are not mapped by Adventure Cycling ? I was thinking after reading all the posts for several weeks to maybe use the Garmin 800 and see if that will guide me through the streets. I might actually use the gps and the aca maps just to be save and double check everything. I am planning on riding from northern utah to idaho and aim towards tx.
The trip will start somewhere around mid to late spring of this year. And i will be doing this tour by myself.
Any advice on maps or gps would be grateful.

Routes / Bicycle Route

I haven't been on this site in a long time but it's good to be back again and seeing so many people interested in bicyce touring and staying in shape.
Since the last time i visited this website i have already been on two tours and i am hoping to do another one late spring of next year. I live currently in Utah and i am hoping to ride to Idaho Fallls by myself. Talking from expierence i was wondering if there are any maps on Adventure Cycling or if i have to get all the mapping from google maps. Google Maps isn't that bad of an idea but if i can i hope to use some of adventure cycling maps.
I have plenty expierence on what to bring and how to take care of myself on the road but the only question is how to get from utah to idaho falls?
And the rest of the trip i'll take care of when i get there. The main trip will be from Utah to Idaho Falls take few weeks off visiting friends and headed to Oregon and end up at Adventure Cycling HQ.

Any guidance or ride alongs would be great.

I'll be starting in provo utah and heading north to east and aim towards ft. collins. After ridng a one week local tour in Colorado i'll be heading south towards san antonio tx. I am not to worried about the trucks and big traffic i am mostly worried about the shoulders on the road or if there are any actual campgrounds or rv campgrounds from Ft. Collins Colorado to San Antonio Tx ?
I could do some research about the route but i might not find much but any good ideas or suggestions would be great.
I thought that most states should have good side roads somewhere for cyclists but from colorado to tx is a long haul anyways so i have to see on the maps which is the easiest and fastest road down south.

I take a cross country trip with my bicycle once a year just to see the world and it's been just amazing. My next trip is going from Utah to Colorado then to San Antonio Tx. Is there any save and direct back roads from Colorado to Tx ?
Otherwise i could just get a ride and drive the first few days until it's safer to ride again. I have looked online for the trip from Utah to Colorado and it is pretty save with big shoulders to ride and there will be plenty of campgrounds to stay in until colorado.
Any advice would be great.

This would be my first trip also and i am traveling with my dad. He is also big on lightweight packing for his hiking long distance. So if your going on very long trip and you don't want to suffer while your killing your legs on big hills go lightweight on clothes, tools for the bike etc so it will be a piece of cake up the hills and everyone has fun riding the bike.

Have an enjoyable trip.

Bike Clubs / How to find the best Bike Clubs in Utah

I am starting a Bicycle Tour across the U.S in a couple of weeks and i am moving back home to Provo from Kentucky and to stay in shape and to keep up with my speed i am wondering where i can find the best websites or people to talk to about a well organized bike club?

Because training in Utah will be much different with all the huge mountains and cars trying to run you off the road. I know a few roads in Springville Utah but any  advise or any hints to any bike clubs will be helpful.

Routes / Packing a Bicycle Trailer

I wrote something on here before and i have many more questions to come like as many will when they do their first bike tour across the u.s. For anyone wondering about the food problem especially in the Utah mountains where it will be extremely hot buy dry food or camping food in advance because there isn't anything out there. And get plenty of water because you will need it.

Anyways about the question i had was i have searched a long time online of how to pack the bicycle trailer so it won't be all crazy when i pull it for my tour?  I heard somewhere you should put the heavy things upfront etc but how do you pack wisely so i will have a nice ride for two months ?

Any advise will be great. Leaving four weeks from monday

I have been on adventurecycling  for a while but i thought i would post something. I have been crazy about cycling since i was five also living in europe but now i am living in the u.s. Which is pretty crazy living here where not all people believe in cycling. But it's still enjoyable to ride.

The reason i am writing on here is also to ask other cyclists who go on tour across the U.S. Where is the best places to eat food while your riding a bike for several months ? And Where to find the best places ? I am going from Ky to Utah and this will be my first one. Any advice will be  helpful so i won't go hungry while i am out there. I am also going with my father and we are in very good shape.

i go by jake the snake but i normaly just go by jake. i've been riding a scott mountainbike since i was five years which was 35 gears and i really enjoyed it in the europine hills. When i was about 7 years old i did start watching tour de swiss and Le Tour de France and that's when i really started getting crazy about riding a bicycle. Ever since i always got a new bike every 5 years because i've normaly rode to fast downhill or it just got to old.

Just last febuary i have decided to go on my first ever bicycle tour with my father. It will be from KY to UT and i am aiming around 6 to 8 weeks and visiting some family and friends on the way.

I should be in the rockies around biginning to mid june what is the weather like in the rockies around that time ?

Any advice on this tour is appreciated
