Routes / GDMBR missing gpx file Update:FOUND
« on: June 07, 2024, 10:33:58 pm »
Hi, I am in the final stage of planning (😂) and noticed an alternate route on the Helena - Colter Bay Village section near Warm River. I cannot find the .gpx file in the map catalogue. Can anyone shed light on this alternate?

Light has been shed😁

I received a reply from the ACA saying that the altn route was in the latest gpx bundle. I re-downloaded the file and sent the info to my mapping app,GAIA gps. The route didn’t show up clearly until I changed the colour to red. It was probably there all the time. D’oh.

John, thank you for the options. There is an alternate ending (Geronimo trail?, however I would be worried about illegal immigrants wanting the survival gear i’m carrying. Probably being paranoid. i’ve also thought about the van rental, and do have a current queensland DL, but don’t own a car and haven’t driven in 3-4 years, so probably a bit dangerous getting used to RHD.

Cheers, Tim

I’ve just searched El Paso to Antelope Wells and came up with Amigo Shuttle for US$320. I guess it depends what you put into the search engine as to what you get out.

Thanks, but no thanks. I’m sure there’s someone who would like to earn a few hundred dollars for a days driving?

Routes / Antelope Wells Shuttle?

I know I’m getting ahead of myself, however given the unlikely chance that I do reach Antelope Wells, what are the shuttle options for getting out of there? Gotta plan for ALL eventualities. :)

3 weeks to my start at Whitefish :D

Hi, I have 2 power-banks, just in case😅 I also have a Garmin In-Reach if I’m desperate. I use the Bureau of Meteorology app where I live in Queensland and it is very good. I was trying to find a similar one-stop solution for the USA. Like a lot of things on this ride it will be a steep learning curve for the first few days/weeks. Thanks to all for their advice.

Thanks John. I used one called Weather in New Zealand recently and that worked well. The local NZ weather bureau was full of ads. It is a generic type and I use it to see how cold it is in Montana atm🥶 I’ll look up the others you suggested.👍

Cheers, Tim

Thanks. I bit the bullet and purchased an AT&T e-sim from an Australian company that will be activated the day I arrive. I don’t fully understand what goes on behind the scenes, but I’ll find out when I arrive in Montana. Only 9 weeks 2 days to go. Scary stuff.
