On the second Sunday in the month of June every year is a bike ride sponsored by The Cleveland Touring Club. This ride is called "Sunday In June" and it is 25,50,62,100 miles long. It connects to the "Underground Railway Route" in Burton, Ohio at The Geauga Historical Center. Great rest stops, SAG service, and a "hot" lunch is served on this ride as well as being Northeast Ohio's classic local bike tour. For more information contact http://www.clevelandtouringclub.org for registration forms and location.

Routes / Detour on The Norther Tier
« on: January 01, 2008, 07:24:27 am »
Heads up:
Part of the Northern Tier is closed off to traffic in Ohio. Please look at the Northern Tier Map section 120 and look for Salida Rd/SR283. This is under construction and is extremely hazardous to ride in or around. Salida Rd at SR283 is blocked off for traffic, there is NO westbound traffic allowed, and all down to single lane eastbound on SR283. Hints:Westbound follow the detour signs get to Lakeshore Blvd follow that or take the detour to Chagrin Dr and go down it and runs into Salida. Eastbound follow westbound route but remember to follow eastbound but it's single lane traffic with No Shoulder/Heavy Gravel.
Watch this section it won't be finished until 2008 or 2009. :8o:

Routes / Northern Tier

Yesterday I tried to help a Korean cyclist riding through Mentor, Ohio. He used US Route 20 instead of the recommended routes of Adventure Cycling. Mentor Ave(US Route 20 is unsafe for ANY cycling). He was fingered, blown at,and riding all over the road(Very Dangerous). I tried to help him but he didn't want to be helped. So if you are traveling East to West or the Northern Tier Route avoid US 20 from Ashtabula to Cleveland, Ohio at all costs. This is my personal recommendation to anyone touring in Ohio. Please follow assigned routes.

Routes / Going through Canada
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:29:15 am »
Is there a way to get to the canal-way without going through Canada? New rules are that you might need a passport to enter Canada just to enter and reenter into the US. Any route be appreciated.

Routes / end of road work on the Northern Tier Route
« on: November 26, 2006, 06:37:52 am »
Road work on US Route 20/Mentor Ave is finished for now but might restart next year in a new location. Gone are days from previous journal entries where the road was down to one lane with one side removed. The road bed is all concrete and smooth as silk.

Routes / Possible detour on The Northern Tier Route
« on: November 17, 2006, 11:15:48 pm »
The bridge over the Grand River(US Route 20)will be closed this spring due to road resurfacing a good possible detour is Casement Rd to Madison Ave and up to Painesville to 20. I found out this today because reported a chuckhole problem to ODOT. So make a note.

General Discussion / inconsiderate drivers
« on: December 23, 2006, 03:32:25 pm »
When traveling by bike how do you handle inconsiderate, rude, or stupid motorists on the road? Here in Northeast Ohio people can't stand cyclists riding with traffic. What do you do when blow, honk, or curse you while going coast to coast.
