Routes / Re: cycling in Burma
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:29:23 am »
My understanding is that you can bike within Burma on a limited visa, as long as you arrive in the country by air. The latest I heard is that you cannot enter the country overland on a bike.

I am planning a route from London, England to Singapore and this is a stumbling block as it will force me to go further North, likely into China to get around Myanmar, something I wanted to avoid.

Routes / China

Hi Lolo,

My name is Fred Bouwman and I am interested in your experience biking in Europe for 11 months. I am committed to work until June 30, 2010 (in Bermuda) and then want to take off for a few years and bike. My intial plan is to fly home to Toronto and bike south to Argentina (across the Northern Tier of U.S, then the Pacific Coast, then through Central/South America).

At that point I would fly home to Toronto and regroup and then go to Europe.

I am not sure about China at this point as I want to limit the number of plane rides I do, too much hassle, but I'm always keen on hearing about others trips.

I am leaving at the end of September for a 3-week solo tour in Provence (starting in Avignon).

Does anyone have any suggestions on routes?

Routes / US Perimeter Tour Logistics

Staehpji,

If your question was posed to me, yes I am serious about doing a permiter route. I am on a work contract in Bermuda until June 2010 so for the next 2 years will be doing shorter tours (in September I am touring in Provence, France).

When my contract is up I plan to do the perimeter of the U.S.

I am also thinking of doing a perimeter tour starting in Toronto, so I would join on the Northern Tier at Niagara Falls.

I think the summer on the Northern Tier, fall on the Pacific Coast, winter on the Southern Tier and then spring up the east coast and back to Toronto.

How is your planning going?

Hi World Traveller,

Did you ever do the perimeter tour?

I am thinking of the same type of ride and looking for feedback.

General Discussion / Favorite book

I always bring the bible (small version) on my bike trips and love other cycling (Miles from Nowhere is a favorite too)books.

I also enjoy reading Tim and Cindie Travis's books (they have 2) on their travels through Central/South America.

Bill Bryson's books are great for a laugh.
