Routes / VA Campsites
« on: July 12, 2008, 11:01:01 am »
Doing the TransAm map12 section this Oct from Christiansburg to Yorktown.

Any info you guys have on the campsites along the way would be most appreciated.  Are there some that we should just totally avoid, some that are a must stay?

We plan on taking hammocks so we could 'stealth' camp a bit along the route also.

Thanks!!
Renee

Routes / TransAm on Map 12, Christiansburg VA
« on: June 20, 2008, 04:00:04 pm »
I live in Vienna, VA and am planning on the ride of map 12.... from Christiansburg to Yorktown VA.

I can then take Amtrak home.

I'm having trouble finding how to get to Christiansburg.  Amtrak & Greyhound only go closest of Marian VA.

anyone tried this yet?

BIKE VA!!

My husband just left for that today, unfortunately I ran out of leave :(

We just did a bike tour of Portugal and it was absolutely gorgeous!

We met friends that run the BRAG (Bike Ride Across GA).

I just joined ACA and am very much looking fwd to planning some of our own trips.

Good luck!

how about we get more detailed;  yes one should use sunscreen to prevent sun damage.. and keep those wrinkles at bay!

my problem is, I use the "SPORTS" sunscreen, but I feel I am just rubbing thick mess on my skin that keeps me from letting all the heat out. ie; the lotion doesn't let my skin breathe and I feel warmer and sweat more (which is gross when I have all these dead bugs STUCK on me!)

anyone tried a snscreen that actually dries on them?

thx

Amtrak has a stn in Newport News... that's not far at all to Yorktown.. you could ride on Rt 17 all the way to Yorktown or catch a cab

Good luck
