Classifieds / Full Suspension "Travel" Mountain Bike With Travel Case
« on: January 18, 2010, 05:38:58 pm »
I'm selling a "travel" full suspension mountain bike size medium with 26" wheels which uses the same breakdown as the Tom Ritchey travel bikes and is full suspension with Rock Shock fork and rear shock, Avid BB7 disk brakes and Sram 9 shifting. Probably have around 20 miles on the bike and the case (included) has not been used. $1050.
Here's the site: http://www.bikefold.com/dahon_speed_fuego_bike.htm
It is a Dahon bike designed by Joe Murray with Tom Ritchey licensed Break-Away features allowing for the travel size!

THIS IS NOT A FOLDING BIKE!

I bought the bike thinking I would take it when we travel and that just hasn't happened.

See this link for pics of bike and case:  http://tippecanoe.craigslist.org/bik/1559051502.html

Routes / Re: Does anyone have experience with Illinois to Florida tours?
« on: January 20, 2009, 01:36:09 pm »
Information on routes in KY might be answered by Johnny Bertrand of the Bluegrass Cycling Club in Lexington.
http://www.bgcycling.net/
Johnny has done extensive mapping of interesting and low traffic count roads throughout Kentucky. More than likely he has a route and maybe information on a contact in Tennessee.
Should your routing cross any of Indiana I would be happy to provide you with a good route through the state. Maybe Vincennes to somewhere between Owensboro and Louisville. In Indiana you can count on nice roads and scenery in most areas South of Indianapolis or along the Wabash River.

Bill and others about Indiana!!!!
Efforts are underway to get more info out there on routes in Indiana.
In the meantime there are resources that will help cyclists find a
scenic remote route through the state.
1. Back Roads of Indiana, a map book (by a cyclist) containing
individual county maps showing most all paved roads with several
suggested routes. Available at Hodsons Bay Co. in West Lafayette.

2. http://www.cibaride.org/maps/maps.html (has links to other area
maps)
3. http://www.lafayette-in.com/bikeindiana.html

Should you find similar info on Illinois please keep us posted.

Should you be interested in the bike but prefer other than the Campy
shifters I will change them to Shimano 105s STIs or barcons for little if
any cost. Just depends on the items you prefer.

Routes / Ohio to California
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:51:42 pm »
Your last comment regarding a straight shot probably rules out the
routes I might recommend. My routes won't save you any time but they
will keep you off highways and on some of the prettiest roads in the
midwest.
Your assumption on US40 being less traveled is correct. It's four lane
with minimal traffic (well compared to other US routes). It's the route
that RAIN (Ride Across INdiana) uses each year. Fairly good services
and around 160 miles across the state.
Good luck on your adventure.

Let me know where you plan on entering and exiting Indiana. I can
provide info for back roads to keep you off highways. If you want to
plan more than that you can obtain my book "Back Roads of Indiana"
which shows almost all paved roads in Indiana plus several suggested
routes which I have used. Either way let me know how I can help.

Routes / natchez trace parkway
« on: October 26, 2008, 01:36:07 pm »
We've biked parts of the trace and in our opinion the section from
Florence Alabama North seems to be the most scenic and rolling. From
there South seemed more open. Nice riding with slower traffic but
you'll need to plan the stops, food and lodging carefully.
