Temporary ACA Route Road Closures / UGRR Section 3, maps 35 & 36 - 2012
« on: February 02, 2012, 04:06:53 pm »
A new bridge is being built over the Ohio River from Madison, IN to Milton. KY. You can follow the projects progress at:

At this time a 5 day closure is planned for April 25–29. These dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions and river levels. A second 5 day closure is likely to occur in the Fall. You will not be able to cross the river in either direction at Madison or Milton during the closures. A detour has been recommended by a local cyclist.

Northbound on map 35:
0(0 km)Continue straight (east) on SR 56. 20(32)Vevay. Route becomes SR 156. * 26(42)Turn left onto SR 101. Cross Ohio River, enter Kentucky. Route becomes SR 1039. * 33.5(54)Ride over I-71. SR 1039 curves left. Turn right onto Boone Rd./SR 465. * 35(56)Turn right onto Sparta Pike/SR 35. 37(59)Sparta. Rejoin route on map 36.

Southbound on map 36:
* 20.5(33)Sparta. Turn right onto Sparta Pike/SR 35. * 22.5(36)Turn left onto Boone Rd/SR 465. * 24(39)Turn left onto SR 1039. Ride over I-71. * 31.5(51)Cross Ohio River, enter Indiana. Turn right onto SR 156. 37.5(60)Vevay. Route becomes SR 56. 57.5(92)Madison. Rejoin route on map 35.

NOTE: SR 56 is not in great shape -- it is broken in places and there is no shoulder -- and you will be sharing it with 55 mph traffic. Ride with caution.

Temporary ACA Route Road Closures / Atlantic Coast #2, maps 21 & 22 - 2011
« on: September 02, 2011, 02:39:28 pm »
We just received this info about the Atlantic Coast #2, specifically map panels 21 and 22:

CR 615 through the Delaware Water Gap is closed in the DWG National Recreation Area until further notice. Extensive damage due to flooding. A reasonable alternative is  US 209 in Pennsylvania on the other side of the river. Many are campgrounds closed as well.

In the wake of TS Irene, here are some resources for checking the status of road and riding conditions in eastern NY:

Poughkeepsie Journal a local paper -for pictures etc.

The link to road conditions map for the state:

I hope this helps.

Temporary ACA Route Road Closures / Adirondack Park Loop - 2011
« on: August 30, 2011, 10:24:10 am »
Flooding around Lake Placid and on the Ausable River will impact services and riding conditions on this route. See this article for more information:

As of July 25th, 2011, south of Banff, Goat Creek Trail is closed:

Goat Creek Trail and vicinity: Effective immediately, the Goat Creek Trail is closed from the Smith-Dorrien/Spray Road (Highway 742) to its junction with the Spray River Trail in Banff National Park. The closure is due to structural damage to the Spray River bridge which has resulted from abnormally high flows due to water diversion by TransAlta Utilities. For further information regarding water flows, please contact TransAlta at 1-877-547-3365.

This information is from the Alberta National Parks page:

We've also had a report of Spray Lakes W. Rd. being closed but cannot find confirmation.

Contact Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation for alternate routing information

Road construction on SR 2 between Havre and Harlem makes riding difficult to impassable. You may want to hitch a ride through here if you can.

Check the Montana DOT road conditions map to watch progress:

We received a report that CR 7 is closed to through traffic, there is nothing on the Minnesota DOT site so it is not clear how long this will be in effect. CR 3 to the east appears to be the best detour.

edit to add:

I just received a recommendation of another way around this closure:

Highly recommend Great River Off Road trail btw Winona and La Crosse. Is dirt but flat/bare. Avoid Hwy 7 mess.

I don't have more specifics than that, but the map on this page might be helpful:

Just outside of Shawano, the SR 22 bridge over Wolf River is closed due to construction. It should be complete by the end of 2011. For the most current informatio, see Wisconsin's 511 page:

Detour instructions NWbound:
