Planning on riding Parks, Peaks, & Prairie rt in Sept. Since we're hotelling it we've decided to ride
I90 from Buffalo to Gillette. The original rt. has no hotels & it's about a 100 mi. which is too far
for us.  Is this a dumb idea?

Routes / Camping in Oneida, Ky

I had heard (by nobody reliable) that they no longer let you camp at the firehouse in Oneida, Ky.
Is this true? I camped there about 7 or 8 yrs. ago & they were so nice. If this is true I hate to see this.

Planning bike trip in mid sept. starting in Seattle up to Hwy. 20 over Wash./Rainy Pass to Winthrop south on Hwy. 153??
We want to eventually connect to U.S. 2 to Spokane. I know what to expect till Winthrop, I've ridden that before. I will
be staying in motel/hotel this trip. My question is  how is Hwy 153 & U.S. 2 to ride shoulders, traffic, motels along the way.
Any info. would be much appreciated.

General Discussion / Traffic in Yellowstone
« on: December 10, 2019, 07:03:21 am »
Been thinking about 2020 & were I want to go. I would like to go through Yellowstone.  Thinking of starting in Billings & going to Cooke City to Jackson Hole or vice versa. I haven't been to this part of the park before by bike. I have heard the traffic is bad & no shoulders. I have ridden from W. Yellowstone to Jackson Hole> There was a lot of traffic but if I remember correctly there was a ok shoulder. Thinking about leaving a few days after labor day. Any thoughts

Gear Talk / Fixing panniers
« on: August 17, 2016, 01:49:50 pm »
I have 4 Madden Panniers that I bought about 15-20 yrs. ago. In Montana one year, my rear rack broke & by the time I
got my bike stop I had burned a hole in one of my panniers. To fix it, would a iron-on patch work or is
there something else that will work better? The hole is about as big as a penny. Thanks for any
help.

Routes / Adirondack Park Loop
« on: August 11, 2016, 12:40:28 pm »
My buds & I are planning a week long trip along the Adirondack Loop. Leaving mid Sept. We like to keep our route between 45 & 50 miles/day. The Adventure Cycling map  has limited space to show all campgrounds; are there more campgrounds along the route that are not shown on AC map? Private, R.V. parks, e.t.c.
Thanks for any help

Gear Talk / Gearing for Touring Bike
« on: June 18, 2015, 01:59:50 pm »
Looking for some insight from the experts. i have a 32 tooth rear cassette on the back of my touring bike. i am not that strong of a climber. I used this gearing in Canada on the Iceberg Parkway & had a hard time. The climbs with the elevation got me. Is it worth the expense to move up to a different cassette, if so to what, or do i need to just suck it up? This year i will be looping around Montana so there will me plenty of hills.
Any help will be great.
Thanks
Scott
