Well, guess you've had reason for not doing it. I just found the post and am interested in this ride. I live in central NJ. I'd be willing to join ya if you still want company.

General Discussion / Re: adirondack loop

Hey Jeff, I finished the loop two weeks ago and had a blast. It was very hot but still refreshing. I beat all the rain. LOL Anyway, the ride is very scenic and many of the small towns were nice to visit. On the main roads the shoulders were plenty wide and drivers considerate, on the secondary roads the drivers were very inconsiderate. Most were so focused on hauling their trailer or boat they didn't even notice me. Twice I was brushed by a trailer and I was wearing bright green and red and rode as far right as I could. Whatever you do, assume they don't see you, especially at streets and crossings. The junk on the non-highway roads was tough on tires and yet enjoyable. I think the best part of my journey was from Albamy up to Speculator. A fantastic and scenic ride. If you get to Speculator, there is a fantastic cafe/coffee shop in the back of the Speculator department store parking lot. Be sure to take a break there. Be safe and pay attention, the drivers won't be.

Gear Talk / Re: Kona Jake vs Trek 520
« on: July 01, 2011, 03:16:52 pm »
Here's my two cents. I own a Jake, Vaya, Trek 520, LHT and an Americano. The Jake is a great bike for trails and short trips (50 or less miles) and light loads. The Vaya is about the same but a bit better due to the sloping tube. The Trek 520 is a very nice touring bike and handles as such with whatever load I carry. The LHT is by far my favorite tourer and is also very very practical from a price point that most of the time beats the Trek 520. The Americano I use only when failure is not an option and on international unsupported tours. While the 520 is a great bike it is my expeiience that the LHT is better overall due to pricing. A touring bike is very much different than a Cyclo bike and if you're thinking of using a backpack, forget about it.

So, Kevin, might you share with us the journey and it's outcome?  P
