Routes / Re: SC avoiding hwy 89

Haven't ridden the portion of your route from Mt. Shasta to 299.  139 from 299 (at Adin) to Susanville is fine; good pavement, an adequate shoulder, and no traffic.  If you are headed south, there is a screaming downhill into Susanville for about 6 miles that compensates for a series of boring climbs.  That being said, I had no problem riding 89 heading north (although I did the portion from Old Station to Mt. Shasta on a Sunday when there were no logging trucks or other commercial truck traffic).  89 from the junction of 299 north to the Siskiyou county line is newly paved  with a big wide shoulder and a ruble strip between the shoulder and the fog line (except for a short narrow bridge across Lake Britton).  In Siskiyou county the road reverted to no shoulder two lane black top for quite a ways.  The drivers seemed courteous, however, and I had no problems.  As far as I am aware, 89 is still closed through Lassen due to snow.  Road A21 to the east, turning onto 44 to Old Station was the detour I took and it was fine.  A21 is a beautiful road through the forest, newly paved, and I think I saw a total of four vehicles.

Be aware that, at least as of today, both the routes through Lassen Park and Crater Lake Park are still closed due to snow.
