Hi Tom,

No, there is no way to attach maps, pictures and other files to this forum. If you have a website with these items posted on them, you are welcome to post a link to the site. I would recommend doing so in the Routes section of the Forum.

Hi Tom,

First, I suggest you repost your query to the Routes discussion on our Forums. I think you'll get a better response to question.

Second, each state has a Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator. I would recommend contacting the coordinator in Arizona after checking their website to see if the answer might readily be there:

Good luck and have a great ride.
Let us know how it went.

We have been advised to alert bike classified ad viewers and posters of a fraud scam when contacted about their ad.

You are contacted by a person interested in your bike. They offer to pay you by cashiers check by someone in your country that owes them money. The check is sent to you and you are asked to deduct the price of the bike and transfer the rest of the money to them asap. The idea being you will transfer money to them before you find out the cashiers check is a forgery.

We hope that by publishing this information and putting links to it from our classifieds section we will help educate sellers and put off scammers. This is happening all over the net and with different types of items for sale. We do all we can to help prevent this sort of thing happening but unfortunately we cannot control who contacts you about your sale item or their intentions.

Web Classified Tips.
    * Consider using escrow services to protect your purchase. If there is any doubt about a transaction, use a well known and reliable escrow service where available. We recommend using "Escrow.com" for safe transactions.
    * Use the same caution in sending cash that you do in real life. You should not undertake a transaction about which you would feel uncomfortable in your regular life off the Web. You should verify the trustworthiness of a seller/buyer before sending cash or cash substitutes, like Banker's Drafts, bank transfers or especially western union transfers. If the other party is requesting western union transfer you should immediately be suspicious since this is sending cash and not traceable.
    * Use common sense when you disclose personal information. Disclose only that personal information necessary to complete the transaction. You should not disclose information that you would not disclose in an off-line real life commercial transaction. Remember we will never ask you for your password or credit card or bank account numbers in an email.

If you have more information about these scams or who the correct authority is to report them please post as a reply here. Finally, be careful.

If you have something that is used or unusually discounted that bicycle travelers would be interested in and would like to sell it, please post it here. Post should be short and detailed. One image is allowable and should be under 60k in size, preferably no larger than 400 px wide and 400 px high.

Include a way to get a hold of you, either your  phone number or email address. Include what you are willing to offer as far as shipping.

ButchKane,
Since your question is related to routing, you might want to repost this topic to the Routes forum discussion. You'll have a better chance at getting a related response.

Sincerely,

.Jenn.

General Discussion / Problem companion
« on: August 01, 2007, 09:42:56 am »
We don't currently maintain any check list of this sort and I don't know that we will in the future. It seems to be one of those topics that though one might think it would come up frequently, it really doesn't. We've found that this is a personal and often unique-to-the-situation issue; areas of concern will differ from person to person and the variables are too numerous to track.

Choosing a travel companion, whether from a group of friends or through an ad, is an important part of the planning process. In the end there is no guarantee that you are going to perfectly meld with these riding companion(s). Just like the equipment you choose, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It can't be entirely known in advance. In both cases, I'd venture to guess that everything turns out mostly ok even if not entirely to plan.

All that being said, I think it would be terrific if this conversation was continued here on the forum about what makes a good traveling partner, what kinds of questions are important to *you* to ask in advance, and a sharing of strategies for determining compatibilities.

Thank you RidersToThe Sea for opening this discussion.

Hi jat,

Thanks for posting to our forum. I noticed you haven't received any replies to your helmet light posting. You might get more response if it were listed in the Gear Talk forum.

And the answer is: near Hartsel, CO. The photo was taken on one of our event rides, Cycle the Divide - Colorado.

Thanks for the hints on where to find the photo, it is a memorable one.

Hmm, if it was a Photo of the Week, we wouldn't have any more information than you saw. Those photos are self-submitted and the photographers write their own descriptions. Sometimes contact information is given (it is only an option to have info published, not a requirement for submissions) so you might scan back through and see if you can contact them.

I thought I had seen it on an actual page though. If you come across it again, send the link to the page and I'll see what I can find out for you.

I'm trying to identify the location for you on this photo. I know I've seen it but can't recall where on the website. What page did you see it on? Once I can see it, I can figure out the photographer and location.
