Thank you to everyone who responded, especially Carla. I looked and looked but missed the list completely. Maybe I better hone up on my map following skills before I attempt this ride :) Lyn

Routes / Great Divide Route - NFS Maps
« on: March 21, 2016, 09:39:00 pm »
I am biking the Great Divide this summer. In addition to the ACA I want to carry National Forest Service maps. (My plan was to cut out pertinent sections.) However, after doing some research, I realize that this means possibly over 20 different maps! I found out that a national forest may have up to 4 or 5 district maps, not one contiguous map. To top it off, I am not sure that the ACA maps for the route list all the national forests, much less all the districts, in the Service Directory sections. Does anybody know of a list of the National Forests that the route passes through and the maps I'd need? Maybe this is overkill but I like the details of the National Forest Service maps. Thanks. Gear Talk / Suspension Forks
« on: December 07, 2015, 11:15:09 pm »
Hi,

I am building a hard tail mountain bike to ride the Great Divide. I am very short. I need a fork that's compatible with 26 inch wheels. I would prefer a fork with 80 to 100 mm travel. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Lyn

Two other options - the Katy Trail across Missouri (www.bikekatytrail.com/) and the Natchez Trace Parkway (www.nps.gov/natr/) from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi.

Routes / New York - Buffalo to Albany Options
« on: February 02, 2012, 11:51:28 am »
Two friends and I are biking from Astoria to Bar Harbor this summer. We are using a variety of routes. I have a general question about the best route across New York from Buffalo to Albany. Should we take the Erie Canal trail or New York State Route 5? As to the Erie Canal trail, some of my concerns are the condition of the trail after last years flooding and the general quality of the surface for road bikes (crushed stone and tree roots). As to New York State Bike Route 5, some of my concerns are scenic value and traffic. Your advice would be appreciated.
