Routes / Lost Coast, CA
« on: November 27, 2006, 04:18:35 pm »
The replies seem to be refering to the "Tour of the Unknown Coast" http://www.tuccycle.org/index.html
That is a one day event, I've done the century twice.
I researched riding the Lost Coast a few years back. If I remember correctly, there was a stretch of at least 30 miles of dirt road. Don't have my forrest service maps, but it seemed to be a rough stretch of road joining Highway north of Rockport.
Never did the ride, just commenting from research and memory.

Routes / camping on the pacific coast
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:27:52 am »
Hi,
Wild camping is possible in some areas. I talked to a few riders doing it.
In Oregon and some of California, the Hiker/Biker sites are cheap in the parks, $5 or less.

Routes / Route 50 Pollock Pines-S. Lake Tahoe
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:38:01 am »
I've driven Hwy 50 to South Lake Tahoe a couple of times eyeballing the biking.
It's bikable, but not likable :>}
From South Lake Tahoe just follow the west shore, can't remember the number (89?), up to Incline.
Several hilly stretches with no shoulder, but traffic isn't going that fast and they're used to seeing bicycles.
I've ridden around the lake 3 times.

Lee

Routes / Rocky Mountain critters, red in tooth and claw?
« on: November 27, 2006, 04:36:00 pm »
Hi,
Regarding L & C to Missoula, I did that in 2004 on the way to join the Northern Tier. If you're bored and want more info, trip report is at: http://bikerlee.home.comcast.net/c2c/index.htm
I enjoyed that portion of the ride more than all the rest, except Glacier national park, my favorite.

Lee

Routes / baja touring
« on: January 28, 2006, 01:48:41 am »
There is a group of friends in the San Diego area that do a similiar route around Christmas some years.
They start at Tecate and head towards Puertocitos.
They finish at Cabo San Lucas.
I had planned to ride Baja last year with the on-road group, but had to miss it due to injury.

Routes / Great Divide and a lot of questions
« on: January 14, 2006, 02:47:37 am »
Hi,
I'm looking at several different rides this year and have not made up my mind yet.
If I go, I'd like company on the Divide. Keep me posted on your plans, it might work out that we could ride togeather. August departure would not be a problem.

Hi,
I am thinking of riding the Great Divide, also.
Glacier Cyclery has a helpful web page on bears and the trail:
