Helmet of Justice: This Helmet Panopticon Records Accidents to Protect Riders

I was reading the following article on Editions for iPad and I thought you might be interested in reading it too.

Read this article by Melissa Carter... she does NOT want to share the road with the cyclist.

Gear Talk / '13 Trek Madone 2.1
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:36:41 am »
I just got myself a 2013 Trek Madone 2.1 road bike.  I will using this for my short touring. I would go for the "credit card" option and I dont see I can put any racks on this type of bike.  Anyway since I will be just doing around New Jersey and its neighboring states only.

General Discussion / Bike and Cars - share the road
« on: January 08, 2013, 12:06:27 pm »
Last night I listened to this local radio station 101.5 NJ.  Their topic is about sharing the road between Bike and Cars.  Although the announcer D&D doesn't condone hurting cyclist, he is full of hate on the cyclist.  He is blaming that cycling are the problem to the road. He explained that some group or pack cyclist dont abide to traffic rules and so why do car drivers need to share the road with them. According to D&D, some cyclist are arrogant and they treath the car drivers when they are riding in groups.

I guess this happens only to those Road Cyclist not the Touring individuals.  The Road cyclist tend to feel that they are elite and think they own the road. Probably they feel like they are Lance Armstrong.

In New Jersey, bicycles have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicles.
- ride on the right
- obey all signals
- travel no more than two abreast when traffic is not impeded
- ride with traffic

My own experience, I also do seen a few that don't follow the traffic rules and they hit the red lights or crossing over moving vehicles and sometime will give you the finger salute if you honk your horn for their action. This is a big shame to those who give bad rep for us cyclist.

Gear Talk / Continental Country Plus II tires
« on: December 18, 2012, 03:47:53 pm »
I need to get some info about the Continental Country Plus II tires (26 x 1.9).
I am going to replace my existing knobby tires on my MTB bike with the CC Plus.
I am wondering if these are good tires.  They seems to be heavy as compare to the existing (26 x 2.1 & 26 x 1.95).

General Discussion / Need advice - NJ
« on: December 18, 2012, 02:58:52 pm »
Hello all.

I just joined and signed up for membership with Adventure Cycling. I have been a long time mountain biking (more of a trail riding).  The furthest travel I tried by myself alone for about a max of 25 miles each way on a trip.  I am sure that is just peanuts as compared to the seasoned bikers around here.  I have riding for many years but stopped for about 2 years.  I am trying to get back to riding my mountain bike, as you all know I am getting older now (48).  =)
Maybe if I saved enough $$, I will try to get myself a road bike next year.

But anyway, I was wondering if someone can help me out where to start my mini tour. I live in New Jersey and only comfortable to travel the vicinity of my state of NJ or maybe along the Northern Mid Atlantic Area.  I am overwhelmed and kind  of confused with the available bike travel maps available at the Adventure Cycling website.  I am not sure which one I should get to start my trip for the coming Spring next year.  I will probably try to convince a buddy to get along with my plan bike touring. =)  Going for bike travelling, I know I have to push myself more than that 25 miles.. I can do it... I know I can.. =D

Thanks for listening. ;)
