I have a trip planned for next summer that will take 3 months. I don't have much experience but I have planned my bike ride between 2 jobs. I realize this doesn't help that much but it's just something to think about. Also if you ask your old boss to lay you off due to lack of work then you can collect unemployment while biking as long as you don't leave the country. Just an idea not sure if it would really work.

Thanks for the replies guys I guess I should have mentioned that I plan to have both front an back panniers and travel relatively light. no electronics will be coming on this adventure except a cell phone in case of emergencies. I've been looking at many different models and sizes but just don't really know how many litres I need. the problem is that I don't yet have the bulk of my gear so I don't know how much space it will take. but I need panniers first for weekend bike trips for training.

Hey guys so I plan on biking across Canada next summer and I was just wondering what a good size is for saddle bags. I'm going to be camping most of the way so they have to be big enough to hold all my gear any suggestions?

Hey guys I've been looking into picking up a used bike to tour with but I don't know exactly what I would need to do a tour across Canada. As I don't have a ton of money to spend on a shiny new bike I've been contemplating picking up an older bike and changing a couple components.

This is the bike I've been considering and I was hoping for a little input before buying it. I've done quite a bit of research on the model and components but I've come up rather empty. Does anyone know if this bike would suit my needs? Or will I end up high and dry beside the road 1000 km's in?

I havce never personnally owned a bio light stove but i recently looked into buying one. from what i've gathered from the multile reviews that i've read, the biolite stove is more trouble then it's worth. The stove takes hours to charge something as simple as a cell phone and has a low fuel capacity so you need to refill it frequently. also it wieghs about 2.5 pounds which is really quite a bit of weight for a stove but you will not have to carry fuel. Personally i feel the whole charger system is just another thing to break and a simpler stove might be more reliable option. i have been leaning more towards the vital stove which is roughly the same minuse the charger and about 40$ cheaper. The fan on the vital stove works off of a seperate battery to run it's fan, unlike the biostove which needs to be generating enough heat to power the fan.The vital stove weighs about and pound and a half which is a whole pound lighted then the bio lite stove. A pound and a half is still pretty heavy for a stove but keep in mind that you will be saving weight and space when it come to fuel.

Hey guys so i'm planning a long trip across canada and it will be my first long term expedition. i've been looking into different types of bikes and from what i can tell there are specific bikes for touring i was hoping for a little insight on what would be the best type of bike for mostly roads with light offroading terrain? any other advise is welcome regarding gear, camping or anything else you think may be helpfull
