Routes / Delmarva Peninsula

For some reason (I don't know why, exactly) I was under the impression that there was going to be a Delmarva Peninsula connector to the Atlantic Coast Route, and that Delmarva maps would be available in May. Was I mistaken in that?

Gear Talk / 48 tooth gear on a triple chainring?

Read a comment on another thread to the effect that a 48 tooth gear on an MTB triple isn't advisable (at least that's what I think he meant). What's the consensus?

Routes / Erie Canalway Towpath trail

I'm looking to do this in August as part of a ride from Wisconsin heading east, if I don't ride rte 66 in June (and maybe if I do!). I could use some experience and wisdom about the ride - facilities, camping, etc.

Good idea? Bad idea? How freaking hot will it BE?? A friend is planning that ride and I'm thinking about joining him, if I can get in enough training to start with 60 mile days... and if it's not going to cook my brain into a hockey puck-like cinder.

Routes / Jacksonville FL to New Orleans...

Thinking about doing this as a little side trip next spring - anyone with any experience doing this? The Southern Route seems to run along US 90, and I don't know much about that route. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

General Discussion / Toe clips? Clipless? None of the above?

This is probably swatting a hornets' nest, but what the heck, right?

What do y'all use, pedal-wise? I recently did a short 160 mile ride (sort of a 5 day "intro to touring" self-seminar - went pretty good!). When I got to where we went to visit a friend, and I was ready to start the ride back home, I realized I forgot my shoes (I was riding clipless at the time). So we went and bought a set of platform pedals and toe clips and I went from there. I kind of like having the toe clips - easy getting my foot out, which I have to do quickly sometimes with the loaded bike (yeah, I'm new to loaded-bike-wrangling).

What do you folks do, and why?

Routes / Atlantic Coast Route - Florida

I'm thinking about riding that next year from Key West to Bar Harbor Maine (and then on to Oshkosh, WI, for Airventure). I'm looking at south Florida and as best I recall from living down there, there aren't a lot of options for camping and such. Anyone have any advice for camping from the Seven Mile Bridge northward? Thanks!

I've been looking - unsuccessfully - for a forum on the Atlantic Coast Route. Haven't found one yet (thus "unsuccessfully"). Are there forums for individual routes?
