General Discussion / Re: Strange sounds from below

I was riding today for the first time after getting a new front derailleur and I kept hearing this rhythmic deep knocking sound. I changed gears, sped up slowed down - the noise basically followed the bike. Great, I thought - I didn't want to take it back to the shop.

Then I looked down and saw my strap-on bottle cage had slid 'round the seat tube and I was hitting it with my pedal.

Agreed about the tread pattern and mud - I usually take the shoes off when I go into someone's home that is hosting me. Restaurants, not so much. :)

DaveB, I have a pair of those on my mtb that I'm thinking about putting onto my touring bike. Just a thought at the moment...

This is probably swatting a hornets' nest, but what the heck, right?

What do y'all use, pedal-wise? I recently did a short 160 mile ride (sort of a 5 day "intro to touring" self-seminar - went pretty good!). When I got to where we went to visit a friend, and I was ready to start the ride back home, I realized I forgot my shoes (I was riding clipless at the time). So we went and bought a set of platform pedals and toe clips and I went from there. I kind of like having the toe clips - easy getting my foot out, which I have to do quickly sometimes with the loaded bike (yeah, I'm new to loaded-bike-wrangling).

What do you folks do, and why?

Thanks, Jennifer - I do appreciate the reply. I'm a little surprised, though, that you don't have forums for the individual routes. It would seem to me that would be the best and most comprehensive way for information to be supplied and found, sort of like a living FAQ for each route, with info constantly supplied and easily found. But hey, it's y'all's forum - I just visit! I'm glad to have it here in any form available. :)

Seriously? Three days and nothing? Surely someone has experience riding through Florida! Thanks!

Routes / Atlantic Coast Route - Florida
« on: September 20, 2014, 10:57:26 am »
I'm thinking about riding that next year from Key West to Bar Harbor Maine (and then on to Oshkosh, WI, for Airventure). I'm looking at south Florida and as best I recall from living down there, there aren't a lot of options for camping and such. Anyone have any advice for camping from the Seven Mile Bridge northward? Thanks!

I've been looking - unsuccessfully - for a forum on the Atlantic Coast Route. Haven't found one yet (thus "unsuccessfully"). Are there forums for individual routes?
